Recently, I had the pleasure of traveling along Lake Michigan, Lake Huron and Lake Superior where mom and pop motels, hotels and resorts offer lake views along gorgeous shorelines. Often it seemed as if I was looking across the ocean. In college, I lived in Oswego, New York along Lake Ontario where the sunsets were a major attraction every evening. People would gather along the shore during warm weather and applaud the sky’s fiery hues and the sun’s performance when it dipped out of view.
Even without the sunset, the lakes are impressive. They make up 21% of the world’s freshwater surface and offer 10,500 miles or so of shoreline. Happily, each of them has sections set aside for vacationers.
Here are five hotels, one for each Great Lake: Ontario, Erie, Michigan, Huron and Superior. Each offer magnificent views of water and horizon and a slice of shoreline for outdoor fun. The options range from luxury to family-friendly.

I’ve been to Lake Ontario, the place is so amazing that you don’t want to go home. The thing that I really love to do in Lake Ontario is that the shopping center is a walking distance from the hotel that I’m staying and the I can swim whenever I can. Love to back here soon!!
