The Great Wolf Lodge, a popular family resort chain, has finally opened in New England. The brand-new resort in Fitchburg, MA, which officially celebrated their grand opening on June 5, 2014, offers 400 rooms and family suites as well as many kid-friendly attractions.
Several room and suite styles are offered, including KidCabin suites, Wolf Den suites, basic family suites, and standard hotel rooms. For our recent weekend stay, we had a double queen suite, which offers two queen beds, a couch, refrigerator, complimentary WiFi and a television. Rooms are located in the main building (which was originally a Coco Key Resort) as well as a new building past the water park.
The Great Wolf Lodge offers many kid-friendly amenities and activities. The highlight of the resort is the water park, which is only offered to resort guests. Admission to the water park is included with a stay at the Great Wolf Lodge. Guests can access the facilities starting at 1pm on their check-in day, and all day on their check-out day.
At the Great Wolf Lodge New England, the water park is separated into two distinct rooms. One is the original water park from the Coco Key Resort, while the other is a new building. Both include many of the popular water slides and activities that the Great Wolf Lodge is known for, including Fort Mackenzie (a multi-story tree house featuring a large bucket that regularly dumps water), Alberta Falls (a dark slide and a light slide that accommodates one or two riders), Tadpole Pond (for little kids), the River Canyon Run (a family water slide that accommodates up to four riders), and the Howlin’ Tornado (a six-story funnel where you glide up and down the sides of the ‘tornado’). A new ride, the Wolf Tail, is exclusive to the Great Wolf Lodge New England, and is a thrill ride where single rider enter a tunnel and drop straight down into a water slide tube.
The water park offers complimentary life vests and towels to guests. Changing facilities are available, and lockers can be rented. We easily spent several hours at the water park. Although we only had one day to enjoy it, my kids would have loved to return.
The Great Wolf Lodge New England also offers other amenities to families, including the Howlin’ Timbers play park, which offers a ropes course, indoor mini golf (for an additional fee), small bowling lanes (for an additional fee), and more. Like other Great Wolf Lodge locations, there’s also the Northern Lights Arcade, a Scooops Kids Spa, and the popular MagiQuest game. To take advantage of the activities, the Great Wolf Lodge offers a special pass for one fee. If you plan to do several of the activities, it’s worth buying one of these passes for each child.
The Great Wolf Lodge New England features several quick serve and table serve restaurants, including an on-site Dunkin’ Donuts, Bear Paw Sweets & Eats (with fudge, bakery items, and ice cream), Buckets Incredible Craveables (in the water park), Hungry as a Wolf (with take-out pizza, pasta, and salads), and the Lodge Wood Fired Grill.
Overall, we really enjoyed our stay at the Great Wolf Lodge New England and really look forward to visiting again.
