The Westin Downtown Denver Hotel crowns the Mile High City with urban luxury and convenience, adding to the remarkable array of hotel options. From historic to budget-friendly hotels, the Downtown Denver skyline offers all major brands and price points, and the Westin is arguably one of the favorites with its location steps from the 16th Street Mall and most Denver attractions.
Arrival
It’s always a treat to drive from my Colorado west suburbia home to overnight in downtown. Although the Westin Downtown Denver is located in the Tabor Center, less than a block from 16th Street Mall on Lawrence. This entrance takes you to the ground floor where Starbucks and the Palm Restaurant are located. Take the escalator up to the main lobby for guest check-in.
The main lobby is divided into the reception desk on one side and, on the opposite side, the open lobby bar with casual seating and oversized windows with a view of Denver. Meeting space and elevators are toward the back, while just off the lobby is the elevator to the parking garage. To me, the main floor, with its great view of the city, says, “Hey, you’re in Denver! Get out and enjoy the Mile High City.”
Accommodations
The elevator whisked me up to my standard King size room, a definite nod to the Westin brand. Although the hues and wooden accents hint at the Denver neighborhood, staying at a Westin is a comfort brand decision. You’ll know you get first-rate accommodations, stylish work desks, WiFi (for a fee), and (hopefully) a view of the destination – in this case city and mountain views.

My view was a little of both overlooking Lawrence Street, but with a side view of the Broncos Football Stadium and a glimpse of the Colorado Rocky Mountains. I’m a fan of the Westin Heavenly Bed– and sleep like a baby once my head hits the pillow. And that’s what you get here at the Westin Downtown Denver, where this hotel features extra spacious rooms, including a couple of chairs next to the windows.
Amenities
I already mentioned the lobby bar, and it’s a popular gathering place as I discovered after unpacking and opting for a cold beer with a city view. This four-diamond hotel also has an indoor/outdoor pool and sundeck, a fitness center with a half basketball court, although I didn’t have time to check these out this visit.
When I check in, next to the reception desk, balloons highlighted the featured display, a Westin partnership with New Balance athletic shoes and apparel. Raise your hand if packing your workout shoes and clothes is a challenge especially for those who prefer to carry on. Westin stepped up their game by offering (for a fee) fresh and clean New Balance athletic shoes, socks and workout clothing delivered to room. So no more avoiding the workout, right?
The Westin Downtown Denver is a hub of business travelers and meetings during the week, and recently the hotel completed $5 million renovation of their meeting space creating additional space. However, on the weekends, this Denver hotel caters to leisure travelers enjoying the city sights and attractions.
For those driving to the Westin Denver, like other downtown Denver hotels, Valet is pricey at $35/night, and I choose the convenience of Self-Parking ($26/night) underneath the hotel. Off-street parking is a more budget-friendly option.
Dining
On-site dining includes Starbucks and the Westin’s Palm Restaurant provides an upscale atmosphere for lunch and dinner, highlighted by its famous celebrity caricatures and cartoons. The Palm is known for its prime rib and Nova Scotia lobsters. Lunch features include tasty burgers and my favorite: Philly Steak & Cheese. If you prefer to explore Denver, literally the eclectic Denver dining scene is steps from your hotel.
