I recently re-visited The Curtis after over 5 years, to re-discover its playful personality. Let’s start with its downtown Denver address in the heart of Denver’s Theater District and near Denver’s massive Colorado Convention Center. With a stay at The Curtis, enjoy a kid-friendly, walkable downtown that will make even the most difficult-to-please families happy.
Stroll its pedestrian-friendly 16th Street Mall, any time of the year is the best time to visit, and with 300 days of sunshine per year, chances are your vacation will include many sunny days. And did we mention that not only are kids of all ages welcome, but four-legged family members are also welcome?
Arrival
At the Curtis Hotel, flower is power, and parents will also wax nostalgic when introducing their children to many of their own childhood memories. Yes, that’s cartoons playing in the lobby, built-in entertainment for the kids while parents check in. For adults, browse the local art collection in the lobby which includes well-known artists.
If there’s a line (and even when there’s not) at the reception desk, give the little ones or teens a handful of change, and let them loose on the retro 5 & Dime store to shop for candy. Give them a little extra and blow some bubbles while enjoying a Bazooka Joe together.
At check-in, guests receive complimentary warm cookies. It’s okay; you’re on vacation so let the kiddos enjoy yet another sugar rush — and on our last visit Papa may have had more than the grandkids!). Take a few moments to check out the complimentary board games in the lobby, future in-room entertainment includes Candy Land, Clue and Battleship.
Accommodations
Perhaps the best part about the Curtis Hotel is the journey to your room, and the hotel recently changed up their floor themes. If you haven’t visited lately, you’re in for a treat. Go ahead and let your children press all the elevator buttons as each floor has a different pop-culture theme.
When the elevator doors open, the adventure begins. We stayed on the SUPERHEROES 5th Floor, featuring halls decorated with massive photos of Superheroes, and that theme carried into the rooms.
Floors 4 through 16 each have a different theme including: 4th Floor Pop Culture; Floor 8 Science Fiction, Floor 13 Dun, Dun, Dunn Hyper: Ghost Busters; Floor 14 Board Games; Floor 16 Pedal to the Metal Hyper TLDGA Nights. Pick your jam and stay in it. Stay up all night playing games on the e 6th floor with its Fun and Games themes with a fun video game themed room.
You likely won’t spend much time in your room with so much to do in Denver, but when you do, your accommodations are more than adequate with contemporary décor and plenty of elbow room for the family. Coffee maker, flat screen TVs and complimentary Wi-Fi (higher speeds additional charge) round out the in-room options.
Dining
The on-site hotel restaurant is the Corner Office Restaurant + Martini Bar, a full bar and restaurant, with a kids menu. Our recent visit was timed with the opening of a Broadway play, so the Corner Office Restaurant was packed. We finally found a place at the bar and enjoyed their amazing gourmet grilled cheese sandwich with tomato bisque and appetizer. Tip for the future: Check the Theater District’s schedule and dine later.
