Across from the Bay, on Ephraim’s main street, sits the charming Eagle Harbor Inn. The bed and breakfast is open year-round for guests to experience the four distinct seasons of Door County, Wisconsin. In the summer, guests are greeted with a cool drink upon arrival, while winter brings hot mulled cider and an excuse to relax by the fireplace while snow falls, blanketing the inn with a layer of white glitter.
Afternoon delight at the Inn
My visit to Door County was on a cold and clear February weekend. As I stepped inside the main house, smells of fresh baked coffee cake filled the room. I peeked my head into the library, the main gathering place within the bed and breakfast. Each of the nine uniquely decorated rooms is named after a historic woman innkeeper of Ephraim. Rooms feature queen beds with private bath and include a full breakfast served on the garden patio or dining porch. With a 73 year track record of welcoming guests, Eagle Harbor Inn has charmed its way into the hearts and photo albums of many couples traveling from near and far.

For those traveling with friends or family, the six architecturally distinct houses, named after trees, are a fine option for folks wanting to spread out on the five acre forested property. I stayed in the Sumac Suite which includes a six foot whirlpool tub, two-way fireplace and cherry wood Eastlake queen bed with down comforter, as well as a bedroom upstairs with full bath.

Families will like the fully equipped apartment size kitchen with coffee maker, as well as HD TV, DVD player, iPod docking station and daily maid service. If this is a vacation, I’d recommend ordering the homemade breakfast basket that is delivered to your door ($19 additional fee.) The basket includes Door County cherry cider, pastries, fresh fruit, milk and the wonderful house made granola with Door County cherries. Of course, you may literally take home a piece of Door County with you…purchase a freshly baked or frozen cherry pie!

If you like to work out on holiday, or you enjoy a dip in the pool and soak in the sauna, head over to the Commons, across from the Inn. Open 7:00 a.m – 8:00 p.m. daily, there are changing rooms and towels available on site.
