Looking for first-class accommodations on San Francisco’s Fisherman’s Wharf? Welcome to Hotel Zephyr, formerly the Radisson Hotel Fisherman’s Wharf. The upscale property has 355 rooms, many with balconies, offering views of the waterfront, Alcatraz, Pier 39, Coit Tower and the iconic Golden Gate Bridge.
The 11,600 square foot deck, or Yard, that anchors the hotel, takes on a whole new meaning in San Francisco. The Yard, once thought of as a “safe” open space for Alcatraz prisoners to exercise outside of their cells, is Hotel Zephyr’s take on a play space. Fortunately, there are no unhappy guests on this island.
According to Kevin Busch, Director of Marketing at Hotel Zephyr, the yard is like a giant game board, offering guests over-sized Jenga pieces, larger-than-life Connect-Four, shuffle board, pool tables and fire pits.
Rooms have a nautical theme, embracing the mythical story of a cargo ship that traveled the world, adding new crew along the way. When the ship docked in San Francisco they realized this city had it all and they decided to drop anchor and transform the cargo ship into a hotel. One of the cargo ship’s crew was a magical mermaid named Gigi. The hotel has adopted Gigi as their mascot and pays tribute to her in the lobby with a whimsical metal wall hanging. I took it upon myself to tour the hotel with Gigi, thus the picture of Gigi the Mermaid in the yard.
Kids will love this family-friendly hotel and your pets are welcome, too. There is a $75 cleaning fee for the pet room whether you stay for one night or a week. While the San Francisco hotel is centrally located on Fisherman’s Wharf, parking is offered for guests arriving by car at $49 per night. There is not a restaurant on property, but there are plenty of dining establishments nearby.
For the teenagers and adults, the indoor game room offers a ping pong and pool table. Hotel room amenities include backgammon and dart boards, in room multi-media streaming to 48″ smart TV, Sealy mattresses, in room coffee maker and fridge, EO shampoo and enough electrical outlets to keep every family member’s gadgets fully charged.
