Opened in July of 2004, the four star Mirador Plaza is situated in San Salvador’s heart of the city. The hotel caters to the business or leisure traveler and is located next to the World Trade Center and Torre Futura Entertainment Center, as well as shopping and restaurants.
This was my first visit to El Salvador and specifically, San Salvador, so I was not expecting armed guards in front of the hotel. I quickly learned that the use of police, as well as tourism police is standard operating procedure in this Central American country. Once inside, the hotel and staff were friendly and inviting.
The two-story hotel offers 40 rooms, ranging from standard rooms to a couple of junior suites and one suite. There are two handicap accessible rooms, but please note that the hotel does not offer an elevator. All rooms include air conditioning, complimentary bottled water, safe deposit box, iron and ironing board, cable tv and complimentary internet access. Additionally, there is a business center and small gym on property.
After a day of seeing the sites, including the Metropolitan Cathedral, Barrios Plaza and El Boqueron Park, I was ready for a dip in the swimming pool. The backyard garden is lush and private with a patio table and chairs to enjoy outside.
I stayed in a room with two twin beds on the first floor that was located next to the garden. My room price ranged from $97 – $115, but as always, check the hotel website for current prices.
