Airport hotels are typically all about convenience. Proximity and shuttle service back and forth are top priorities with travelers. From one city to the next, they have a tendency to feel a lot alike, but at the Hilton Garden Inn LAX/El Segundo, it was easy to forget Los Angeles International was just a couple miles away.
Day or night, there’s a fun pop of color you’ll notice when you enter the lobby. After a full day of flying, it was almost 11pm when I arrived. Check-in was quick and easy. I grabbed a complimentary cup of hot tea from the lobby and was in my first floor room in a matter of minutes.
All 162 guest rooms at the Hilton Garden Inn LAX/El Segundo are smoke-free. At 350 square feet, my room was spacious. Along with a king bed, there was a comfy chair and a good size desk with an ergonomic chair. Not having to reach under the desk to plug in electronics was a nice plus. Bonus electric outlets in the base of both bedside lamps make it easy to plug in electronics like cell phones that typically serve double duty as alarm clocks. Internet access is complimentary.
Amenities like a small microwave and mini-fridges big enough to actually fit food in, are especially handy for traveling families. There’s also a Keurig® coffee maker, for those times you feel like a cup of coffee or tea, but you’re already in your pajamas.
Coin operated washers and dryers are located on the first floor of the hotel. You can purchase laundry detergent from the Pavilion Pantry® next to the front desk. Open 24/7, the convenience store has an assortment of food and travel goods for purchase. The on-site restaurant, the Great American Grill serves breakfast, lunch and dinner.
I wasn’t at the hotel long enough to use it, but the secluded outdoor, heated pool and whirlpool was a nice surprise. Head indoors and there is a colorful fitness center on the first floor. Both are open 6am to 10pm daily.
Business centers never seem to attract a crowd, but they come in handy when for no good reason, your boarding pass doesn’t arrive in your email inbox. Computer terminals connect directly to numerous airline check-in websites, and you don’t need to sign-in to any network to print. The combination makes getting the paperwork you need fast and painless.
Along with my cell phone alarm, I tend to book a wake-up call just in case. At Hilton Garden Inn LAX/El Segundo when the phone rings, there’s a real person on the other end to say good morning and make sure you are moving.

The hotel offers complimentary shuttle service to and from LAX, but be sure to call when you land at the airport. The wait for the shuttle was 30 minutes when I arrived. The front desk told me I could grab a cab and they would reimburse me when I arrived. Maybe they could hear the exhaustion in my voice?
Nightly rates for a guest room with a king bed at the Hilton Garden Inn LAX/El Segundo start at $149. You can also book through Expedia.
