Whether you are visiting friends or students in the Lake Oswego area or exploring the great outdoors in Oregon’s Mt. Hood territory, you’ll be able to enjoy a sunset over the lake at Lakeshore Inn. I remember visiting a friend during my time in college who grew up in Lake Oswego. I thought it was so cool that we could go on a boat ride around the lake direct from their private dock. Recently I found myself back in Lake Oswego basking in the glory of another beautiful sunset on the lake.

I was on my last stop of a week long road trip from San Francisco to the Willamette Valley and ready to park my car and relax for the night. After a friendly check-in, I took the elevator to my room on the fourth floor, dropped my bag, grabbed a glass of Oregon Pinot Noir (Elizabeth Chambers Cellar 2012 Freedom Hill Vineyard) and took in the sunset over the lake. My room, a two bedroom suite, would be ideal for families as the kitchen is fully stocked – I only needed a wine glass – and a complimentary breakfast is included in the price of the room. But lets be honest, the continental breakfast is nothing special. Instead, head over to Kyra’s Bake Shop and order the gluten-free cinnamon rolls! Her shop is known for the Food Network winning cupcakes, but everything is good here.

Okay, I admit that I’m easily distracted by food, but the lake view is a huge plus in my book. If you are traveling with kids, they’ll appreciate the outdoor heated pool and the free cookies by the front desk. If you are traveling with your pet, Lakeshore Inn is dog friendly and charges a very reasonable $15 per night, treats included. Light sleepers take note that trains do pass by at night – you might want ear plugs.

The family-owned hotel opened in 1978 and has kept its small inn charm. The hotel has recently renovated all hotel rooms. Lakeshore Inn offers complimentary parking and is conveniently located next to Millennium Park and close to Lake View Village. The inn offers a computer and printer for guest’ use in the lobby.

Review and photos by travel writer Nancy D. Brown. Her stay was hosted by Oregon’s Mt. Hood Territory during her visit to Oregon Wine Country and the greater Portland area. As always, her thoughts and opinions are her own.
