Play Ball at Sheraton Mesa Hotel at Wrigleyville West

Location can make or break a hotel. In the case of the Sheraton Mesa Hotel at Wrigleyville West, you could say it hit a home run. Its neighbors are heavy hitters. Hang a right when you leave the hotel and you’ll walk straight into Sloan Park, the Chicago Cubs’ spring training stadium. (The property is so close to the ball park, you could walk to your room during the seventh inning stretch.) Not a sports fans? No worries. Simply hang a left to explore Riverview Park.

King Junior Suite Poolside

All of the hotel’s 180 rooms are non-smoking. I spent two nights in a spacious King Junior Suite Poolside. Along with a king bed and functional desk, there was a sitting area with a full-size sleeper sofa, cushy chair and coffee table. The room also had a mini-bar area that housed a refrigerator, a microwave oven and a coffee and tea maker.

The view was fun, day or night. Along with offering a peek into Sloan Park, the Sheraton Mesa’s one-acre pool area was directly below. With three swimming pools, two wading pools and a couple hot tubs, the splash zone is perfect for cooling off and entertaining traveling families.

Sheraton Mesa Club Lounge

My room included access to the Club Lounge. Along with complimentary breakfast, snacks and non-alcoholic drinks, there is a computer, printer, and fax machine. In addition to a full-service Starbucks, the hotel has two restaurants. Stats Sports Grill has flat screen televisions at every turn so sports fans can keep tabs on scores while eating comfort-food like nachos and burgers. The bar offers more than a dozen domestic and local craft beers on tap.

Legends Steak serves hand-cut locally sourced beef along with an impressive selection of seafood. If you have a sweet tooth, save room for the baked-to-order chocolate chip cookie served warm with a generous scoop of vanilla ice cream.

If you’re an early riser, the park is a great spot for a walk or jog. The playground sports a rope climbing tower that stretches 50 feet into the air, a splash pad, and numerous other kid-friendly structures.

Self-parking is complimentary and free internet is available to all SPG Members when booking on Starwood websites, mobile sites and SPG apps. An additional perk – the hotel is also less than eight miles from Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX).
