Smooth Sailing at the Sheraton Old San Juan Hotel

The Sheraton Old San Juan Hotel isn’t new and it isn’t flashy, but it doesn’t have to be. Located in the thick of Old San Juan, Puerto Rico, it sports waterfront views of San Juan Bay and provides guests a fantastic home base for exploring the historic city.

The hotel has 240 guestrooms, but its layout makes it feel smaller. The lobby isn’t grand, but the large staircase guests see when they first enter the hotel has a way of making a positive first impression. Truth be told, the guestrooms are a dated, but they are clean and comfortable and provide all the basics you would expect from the Sheraton brand, including 42-inch LCD televisions, complimentary tea and coffee, in-room safes, and same-day laundry service. All guestrooms are also smoke-free.

In-room internet access is complimentary when you book through our Starwood Preferred Guest websites or SPG apps.

Sheraton Old San Juan Hotel rooftop pool

The rooftop pool and hot tub offer a scenic spot to make a splash, along with some of the hotel’s best views of San Juan Bay. The rooftop is also a quiet spot for early risers to enjoy a cup of coffee or tea. (You can brew it in your room or grab it from the nearby Starbucks.) The Fitness Center also boasts prime rooftop real estate. Nearby locker rooms have showers and changing rooms.

The Sheraton Old San Juan Hotel has an on-site restaurant and small patio bar, but there are countless other options within steps of the property. The hotel is walking distance to everything visitors would want to eat, see and do including the San Juan National Historic Site, the Paseo de La Princesa, the waterfront boardwalk, El Malecón, and the ferry to Cataño and the famous Bacardi Rum Factory. There’s also a free open-air trolley that runs throughout Old San Juan, that’s a great way to learn the lay of the land, or simply give aching feet a break.

Even juggling luggage, cruisers can make it to the terminal to board their ship in a matter of minutes. There’s typically a few hours gap between hotel check-out and cruise check-in. The hotel will hold guests luggage free of charge so they can easily explore area, but Starwood Preferred Guest members with Gold status and above can take advantage of a 4pm late checkout. It’s subject to availability, but myself and friends staying in two other rooms at the hotel, experienced no issues or troubles when taking advantage of the perk.
