Romance & Rustic Luxury at Pine River Ranch, Leavenworth

Over the river, and through the woods, you ‘ll find a romantic rustic luxury getaway at Pine River Ranch in Leavenworth, Washington. The 23-acre property has access to Nason Creek, a pleasant walk when you’re checking out the grounds, and it’s also a short drive down the road to Lake Wenatchee.

We were looking for a pleasant getaway weekend from Seattle and made the 2-hour drive across Stevens pass during the summertime. It’s a beautiful drive across the Cascade Mountain Range, perhaps even more so during the fall, and Pine River Ranch is about halfway between Stevens Pass and Bavarian-themed downtown Leavenworth.

Pine River Ranch has six suites, one on the top floor of the main house and the others in independent cabins located around the property. We stayed in the Nason Suite, one of the newer suites, with a deck that looks out into the woods to the side of the property. The cabin looks rather plain on the outside, and I mentally questioned if we were going to be roughing it, but upon opening the door I was pleasantly surprised.

The interior of the cabin was painted burgundy and sage, providing a beautiful backdrop to the Pacific Northwest inspired decor. The queen-size bed, along with much of the other furniture, was crafted from hand peeled arbor logs.

The stone fireplace (propane) and jetted tub were crafted from river rocks found in the area and were as impressive as they were massive. Other Pacific Northwest themes were found in little touches around the cabin, from woven rugs to snowshoe displays mounted on the wall. The bathroom is stocked with Beekmans 1802 Mercantile amenities, proudly made with natural ingredients and formulas based on the clean simplicity of life in the country.

Balancing out the cabin-in-the-woods vibe, are luxury touches like velour robes, a fluffy duvet, and a flat screen television with satellite coverage that includes HBO/Cinemax and the NFL Sunday Ticket. Even though you’re in the woods, you don’t have to miss your favorite game. We found a checkerboard in the room (it had been eons since I’d played the game), and a binder with lots of suggestions and recommendations about things to do in the area.

Since the weather was warm, we spent most of our time outdoors, hiking around the property followed by a quick dip in Lake Wenatchee. We followed that up with the quick drive into Leavenworth to pick up a pizza and bottle of wine, then settled into our cabin for the night. We sat on the deck for sunset, then stayed out to enjoy how dark it gets away from city lights, and the gentle nighttime noises of the woods.

The cabins have a well-stocked kitchenette that includes a refrigerator, coffee maker, wine bottle opener, and microwave. You’ll find hot cocoa, coffee, cider, and tea if you’re thirsty, or stop by one of the wineries in the area for a bottle to enjoy on the deck. You’ll be amazed at how quiet the woods are in the evening. If you want to do more substantial cooking, dishes, flatware, and other items are available at the main office.

The counter was set for breakfast, which is both delicious and substantial and comes delivered to your door. On our stay, breakfast included a basket of homemade scones and muffins, waffled with berries and whipped cream, a bowl of locally grown cherries, homemade sausage, and apple juice.

While the grounds are beautiful during the summer weather, and it’s a popular spot for weddings and other group events, don’t ignore the possibilities it offers during the winter. The photos of it in the wintertime are equally gorgeous. Downhill skiing is available at Stevens Pass or bring your cross-country skis and set off directly from the property or enjoy groomed trails a couple miles away. Snowshoes are available to guest who want to enjoy a quick traipse around the snow-covered property. With its proximity to year-round outdoor activities, Pine River Ranch makes a perfect rustic luxury getaway any time at all.

Pine River Ranch is located at 19668 Highway 207 , in Leavenworth, Washington. Rates start around $175 per night, which includes breakfast. Weekends book up months in advance, so make your plans early. These romantic cabins have been designed for occupancy for two adults and cannot accommodate children. There seems to be some flexibility on that policy, though, so my recommendation is to specifically inquire before booking. You can also compare rates and book through one of the many booking sites such as Hotels.com or Booking.com.
