San Miguel’s sun-drenched streets and bevy of restaurants and bars demand a good selection of boutique hotels. Intimate hideaways where staying in for the afternoon or evening is just as satisfying as going out. For romance, for relaxation, for intensely personalized service, here are five boutique hotels in San Miguel de Allende that should be on your list.
El Palomar Hotel
High up on San Francisco street in cobblestoned San Miguel sits El Palomar hotel, the renovated suites which were once just a rundown apartment building in San Miguel’s Centro Historico. Nowadays you will ohh and ahh over each room’s tiny details like bikes that serve as the base for bathroom sinks, wooden-shuttered windows, and cozy sitting spaces – details that make you feel as though you could easily be staying in a tiny Paris apartment with a stunning view of the city lights below.
The hotel offers a sunny breakfast patio, a rooftop bar with incredible views of San Miguel’s famous Parroquia main church, and a tiny pool right for taking a dip under the mid-day Mexican sun. Heading down San Francisco street are art galleries, the toy museum, boutique clothing shops, and finally, the beautifully-preserved San Francisco church from which the street takes its name.
Hotel Amparo
Hotel Amparo opened in 2019 and seemed to immediately get onto every glossy magazine It List, Hot List, and “New Places to Stay” list. Within a year it was topping readers’ polls as well. Not too shabby for a hotel with just five rooms.
Amparo fulfills all your dreams of an intimate stay in a historic Spanish Colonial city. The modest doors facing the street originally led to a grand mansion around a courtyard. Now you can sit in the courtyard for breakfast to enjoy the year-round great weather, while a fountain bubbles nearby and you inhale the whiff of flowers that are blooming. One room is on the roof level, where there’s a city view from a terrace, two share a small garden, and two open onto the courtyard.
There’s a combo bar and coffee shop near the entrance and a wine salon serving some interesting bottles from Europe. You can order lunch or dinner here or head out to one of the many great restaurants within a 10-minute walk. Ask the knowledgeable staffers for recommendations as they know the city well. CasaBlanca 7 Hotel
One of the most centrally located hotels in town, CasaBlanca 7 Hotel is just steps from the city’s main plaza and all of the best restaurants and art galleries in town. This converted colonial mansion with Moorish arches and a sun-dappled central patio might be one of the most expensive stays in the city, but it is also one of the most delightful.
Both the breakfast café and rooftop Mediterranean restaurant are collaborations with local chef Donnie Masterton, with food that is thoughtful and delicious, and an ambiance that sets them apart from the world outside the hotel’s walls. Rooms are large with a simple luxury, quality products and well-crafted beds and furniture. Room sizes vary little, so the upgrade isn’t necessary, but a room with one of the stand-alone bathtubs certainly adds a touch of indulgence.

Hotel Dos Casas
This tiny 7-room hotel is one of the most intimate, attentive stays you will find in San Miguel de Allende. Staffers are dedicated to making your visit as pleasant as possible and redefine the meaning of Mexican hospitality. The spacious suites are located inside the site of what was once two colonial homes, thus the name, and the classic architecture plus tasteful décor give the place a feeling of home.
Dos Casas’ Aperi restaurant and bar are both favorites among guests and locals alike. The hotel is right up the street from the town’s main plaza and some other delicious spots like the Cumpanio bakery and the La Ventana coffeeshop.
L’Otel Doce 18
San Miguel’s L’otel boutique hotel is appropriately located above the city’s hip, upscale mini-mall Dôce 18 Concept House, located right in the heart of the historic center of town. The hotel, the epitome of contemporary Mexican with its slick design, white-washed everything and lots of luxury amenities, has a star location for eating and drinking in town. There’s a full restaurant on the first floor as well as the various delicious choices at Dôce 18 and downtown’s best restaurants just steps away. The hotel has lots of great public areas for lounging and a heated pool and outdoor deck to soak up some of those desert rays. For an urban vibe in the countryside, this is your place.

Hello Lydia Carey. I am in California , retired, coming to San Miguel De Allende Guanajuato and I am looking to stay for 3-4 days and wanted to know what hotels are in the city. I have a budget $60-$100. Your named popped out when asking that question. Or do you have friends that can text me.
Hey Henry,
There are a few cheaper hotels, Real de Minas for certain rooms, Posada de la Aldea, both are good locations with a slightly lower price point. Casa Colibri I have never stayed in but it is in a great location, Posada de las Monjas I have been inside of but not in the rooms, another great location. Overall though, San Miguel is an expensive place to stay in a hotel and you won’t find much under $150 a night. You might have better luck trying an Airbnb. There is also the San Miguel Hostel (there are several hostels, this is just the one I know personally and can vouch for) which has very nice, clean rooms and is a much lower price point (their location on Reloj street is extremely central). I hope that helps!
