You’ve decided to splurge on a trip to New York, but you don’t want all of your hard earned dollars to go toward the price of a Manhattan hotel room. Relax, I have good news to share. Doubletree by Hilton New York Times Square West has recently arrived on Broadway. It’s true, this brand new hotel recently sprung up from the ground on West 40th Street in mid-town Manhattan. What was formerly a parking lot is now a 37 story Hilton hotel.
While the hotel would not be described as a luxury property, I use the term luxury to convey the fact that this Doubletree delivers a clean, affordable, family-friendly room in a central mid-town Manhattan location next to Times Square. To me, that equals luxury – I don’t have to fret about paying too much for a New York City hotel room. All of the 612 rooms are pet-friendly and all rooms feature “Sweet Dreams” beds. The room decor hints of the nearby Theater District paired with crisp white bedding and bath towels. As expected in a new build, there are plenty of electrical outlets beside the king bed and by the built in desk with energy efficient desk lamp. Closet space is minimal and pedestal bathroom sinks don’t leave much room for makeup bags or shaving kits, but it forces one to keep their toiletries organized.
My husband and I escaped to New York for a romantic weekend and could have spent our entire stay at Lovage, the rooftop lounge. With its city views and indoor/outdoor access this was our happy place. My husband enjoyed a Manhattan from the bar while I munched on a warm chocolate chip cookie and watched the planes soar overhead. I’m sure this place will become a hot spot for the hipsters, but as yet, it is an undiscovered oasis to watch the sunset or take a selfie with the New York City skyline in the background.
Dining at Doubletree by Hilton New York Times Square West
Magnolia Restaurant is the restaurant located on the first floor. Like most hotel guests, we opted for the American Breakfast Buffet. The hot breakfast buffet included scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, oatmeal, fresh pastries, breads and bagels, in addition to pancakes, yogurt, fresh fruit, cold cereal and granola. Coffee, tea and juice was also included in the buffet option. Picky eaters will find something to please the palate and there is also an option to order off the menu. We did not experience lunch or dinner at the restaurant; instead, I opted for more hot chocolate chip walnut cookies. Happy day!

Of course, those cookies, while complimentary for hotel guests, come with a price. They are not low in calories. Fortunately there is a fitness center located downstairs. The fitness center is next to the business center should you need access to a computer or printer – no charge for the use of either space. As with new hotels, the staff is currently working out some kinks such as slow elevators. The friendly front desk workers make up for missing coffee packets by the in room coffee maker with their “we’ll make it right” attitude. As with all Doubletree by Hilton hotels, you can expect a consistently positive experience that brings you back again.
Room rates start at $149 with package deals anticipated to be introduced soon. Book directly through the hotel website or use a booking site such as Hotels.com or Expedia.
