When you first arrive at the Le Méridien Hamburg, try to remember to look up at the wave-shaped façade. It’s worth the minute or so delay of checking-in. Set on Alster Lake it pays tribute to the hotel’s front yard, and sets the stage for the modern welcome that is waiting inside.
With an assortment of shiny light fixtures and eye catching décor, the sleek lobby has a way of getting you excited about what is waiting in your room. In all, more than 600 works from approximately 50 local artists, are scattered throughout the hotel lobby, hallways and guest rooms.
Le Méridien Hamburg offers 261 rooms and 14 suites, (for a total of 275 rooms) that cover a range of seven different categories. Deluxe category rooms account for nearly a quarter of available rooms. The hip style displayed in the lobby carries over into guest rooms in fun and practical ways.
Along with an illuminated headboard, contemporary lamps and fixtures provide style and light. Perfectly centered at the end of a short hallway that doubles as closet space, the bathroom’s bright red, claw foot bathtub is an eye-catcher.

The room offers all the traditional amenities a guest would expect from a Le Méridien. The desk is large with an easily accessible electrical plug, there’s a small refrigerator, safe, and coffee and tea making equipment and supplies.
As soon as you walk into the room, there’s a unique door of sorts, but it doesn’t lead to a closet or hidden room. Open it and inside is a hairdryer, iron and ironing board. It’s a clever, space-saving concept, but sticks out a bit awkwardly into the entry hall.
Even with the fun, modern décor, the star of the room is the view of Alster Lake. A door swings open and the balcony is just large enough to step outside. The view and fresh air that comes with it, is a perk of staying in a Deluxe Room. That said, An der Alster, the street below, is busy and traffic noise does carry into the room. So, if you are a light sleeper, an inside room might be the best choice.
Located on the 9th floor, an entire wall of the HERITAGE Restaurant & Bar is comprised of windows. Every table in the house benefits from the bird’s-eye view of the lake and Hamburg’s city center. But be sure to check out the art on the solid walls as well. The contemporary take on villains and super heroes serves as an interesting conversation maker. A breakfast buffet is served daily for an additional charge. In the lobby, Latitude Bar, serves coffee, tea and an assortment of grab and go type options.
The hotel has a fitness center that is open 24/7, but guests can get a workout with a view just steps outside the hotel lobby, along the trail that circles Alster Lake.
Le Méridien Hamburg is a five-minute walk from the central train station and city center. The Hamburg Airport (Flughafen Hamburg) is about a 30-minute drive.
