Hip Hotel Saint Sernin
The 17 room St. Sernin Hotel in Toulouse, France, is a hotel in the hip part of this university town. Within walking distance of Gallery Lafayette shopping, the Garonne River and St. Sernin Basilica, the St. Sernin Hotel is not only conveniently located; it also offers reasonably priced hotel rooms, some with a view of the Basilica.
As is typical of European hotels, you’ll need to lug your bags up a flight of stairs to the check in counter of this three star hotel. A friendly, English speaking receptionist will check you in, hand you a key, and point you to the tiny elevator.
Clean, small rooms at St. Sernin
I rented my room, #32, for 112 euros plus an additional 12 euros for breakfast (check the website for current pricing as rates change.) Breakfast, served from 7:00-11:00 a.m., included coffee, tea, fresh-squeezed orange juice, meat, cheese, hard-boiled eggs, pastries, yogurt, and muesli. This was by far the most generous breakfast I encountered during my week long travels through the Midi-Pyrenees region.
Need to Know
While pets are not allowed at St. Sernin Hotel, cots are available for children three years and under. Also, the hotel offers private parking. Check in is at 3:00 p.m. with noon check out.
Dinner Recommendations near the Saint Sernin Hotel
As mentioned, Toulouse is a thriving and vibrant university city. We dined on the patio at Chez Emile at 13 Palace St. Georges in the heart of old Toulouse on a warm Saturday evening. I enjoyed an authentic, regional specialty; Cassoulet with duck confit and white beans, after an appetizer of local red bell pepper, sardines, and cheese. The leisurely meal was delicious and served alongside local wines from around the area.
