When extended family comes en mass for a wedding, an affordable price point, comfort, great service, hang out spots, and area attractions are musts. Embassy Suites in Kennesaw, Georgia just north of Atlanta delivered. For anyone interested in a hub for exploring Marietta–a historic, artsy and utterly charming town, as well as, other just north of Atlanta attractions like the Southern Museum of the Civil War and Locomotive History and Kennesaw Mountain Battlefield Park, this Embassy Suites is a great location. Hosting wedding party stays seems to be a hotel forte.
When we arrived, I noticed three separate wedding party gift bags behind the counter. Our check-in was seamless, and with the right gift bags of goodies in hand, we headed to our king bed suite. Since on this trip my dad was my travel companion, the two separate rooms were perfect. I gave him the king bed and I took the pull out couch in the living room. Our room also had a refrigerator and microwave, and the coffee pot and tea station conveniently located between the living room and the bedroom just outside the bathroom was a great set up.
All was perfect except in the morning when I tried to get the bed to fold back up into the couch, one of my cousins had to help me wrestle it into place. This was a bit of a feat since the springs wouldn’t budge until the 4th try. I did tell the maintenance about the issue. Considering everything else about this hotel seemed to be in working order, my assumption is the bed was adjusted. The maintenance person I talked with did jot the info down when I reported the couch bed fold-up problem.
I did like the feel of this hotel. Throughout, from the lobby and sitting areas to the conference room section a the back, abstract art created a color palate of warm, cheery tones that added to a more homey feel. My cousin and his wife who hosted this gathering set up a hospitality suite in their room. With the cooler of beer as an extra bench, and kids playing in the bedroom, seating was just enough for several of us to visit.
During breakfast that included the made-to-order omelets, as the line became longer, staff set up a second hot item station to cut down on wait time and crowding. The spill over seating went into Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse, the onsite restaurant. For our large entourage of all ages from toddlers to great-grandparents, this worked out well for visiting. With three wedding parties staying here, the mood was upbeat with congratulations and smiles going round.
One lovely touch I haven’t seen before at any other hotel is a waterfall wall with wedding announcements mixed in with advertisements that looped in a slide show. My cousin said that the hotel asked them to provide a photo and the hotel put together the graphics. This very cool addition to the lobby added to the celebratory feel and inclusiveness of the guests. We recognized one of the couples at breakfast and gave our congrats.
When I was seeking out someone in my family to lend me a lint roller, a woman sitting in the lobby visiting with my aunt said she had one she’d let me use. As it turns out, she was a guest for one of the weddings and was a Red Cross volunteer heading to Puerto Rico in a few weeks to help out there.
Although I didn’t use the pool or the work out room, several of my relatives did. Each was a hit. Because I left my laptop at home, the business center worked out well for printing out my boarding pass and checking my dad into his flight. Because the wedding wasn’t until later in the day on Saturday, I did have time to explore. The Embassy Suites location right off I-575 and I-75 made Marietta an easy and quick to get to drive. As a movie buff, I couldn’t pass up the Gone with the Wind Museum located just off Marietta’s town square. Along with museum memorabilia, there are newspaper articles and information about author Margaret Mitchell and the controversy surrounding the film.
Near the hotel, there’s a shopping mall and several eateries. One of the hotel receptionists recommended a nearby Japanese Steak House for a gift card for a wedding present. It was an easy place to find and not far from where my cousin’s daughter and her new husband lives.
Another plus of this Embassy Suites location is its accessibility to the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. We rented a car and each way was about a 20 minutes drive. It was a slam dunk between the airport car rental and the Embassy Suites parking lot.
The wedding and reception I attended was off-site, but this Embassy Suite does have large conference rooms for an on-site reception.
Room rates currently start at $129 at the Embassy Suites website. Or try Booking.com to compare rates.
