Is Niagara Falls on your bucket list this year? Or are you thinking about making a trip with your family to this destination that’s one of the most popular in North America?
On the Canadian side of the famous cascades, Niagara Falls, Ontario, has a wide range of accommodations, from basic motels to high-end towers. To check out a lodging that’s somewhere in the middle, I recently stayed at the DoubleTree Fallsview Resort & Spa, Niagara Falls.
Here’s the scoop:
Part of the Hilton chain, Niagara Falls’ DoubleTree property is a 19-story high rise located in the Fallsview neighborhood, which is up the hill from the Falls themselves. Niagara Parks runs a convenient shuttle bus network that can take you between the Falls and numerous area attractions, and this “WEGO” hop-on hop-off bus stops outside the DoubleTree.
Facilities and Services
The DoubleTree Fallsview lobby recalls a ski lodge, with high ceilings, a limestone fireplace and columns, Art Deco style lamps, and lots of dark wood. As at all DoubleTree properties, staff greet you at check-in with freshly baked cookies.
The hotel is renovating the lobby this year, replacing the current coffee bar with a new bar serving not just caffeine but also local craft beer and wine. The hotel’s main restaurant, Buchanans Steak & Seafood, is on the 2nd floor, open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

One of the hotel’s nicest features is the indoor pool on the lower level, with large windows that capture the setting sun. Most kids would head right for the pool; fortunately, for adults, there’s a kid-free swimming zone, too.
A fitness room and a small guest laundry are also on this lower level.
Guest Rooms and Amenities
All 224 guest rooms are on the river side of the building, which means that the hallways are lined with windows. While the hallways don’t face toward the Falls, they’re much brighter than typical hotel corridors, with more natural light.
In the rooms themselves, you need to book a room on the 16th floor or above to see the American Falls. From my room, on the 15th floor, the Skylon Tower dominated the view, though the spray from the Falls was also visible.
Rooms furnishings are fairly standard, with two queen beds in the majority of the guest rooms. All units have small fridges, coffeemakers, and complimentary Wi-Fi.
Some larger suites have a separate sitting area with a sofa bed plus a king bed in the bedroom, handy for families or friends traveling together. On the top floor, the hotel has some rooms with a king bed and whirlpool tub.
The DoubleTree Fallsview may not have up close views of the Falls, but if you need a comfortable mid-range place to stay while exploring this popular destination, it fills the bill.
Rates
Standard double room rates at the DoubleTree Fallsview Resort & Spa start at CAD$105/night during the quieter winter season and at CAD$193/night in summer. Make a reservation directly online at the DoubleTree website or on a site such as Booking.com.
Parking in front or in back of the hotel building, or in an adjacent overflow lot, is $16 a day.
Packages including breakfast are also available.
