My relatives gather in packs. Either there’s a wedding, a baby shower, someone’s birthday or some other occasion where we descend on a hotel for a visit and to celebrate. The Hampton Inn & Suites Nashville Hendersonville, Tennessee–about 30 minutes from downtown Nashville and 24 minutes from the airport, served as a wedding shower weekend sleepover.
Bright cheery colors, modern decor and spacious meeting areas with seating for a crowd made for a very enjoyable stay. Considering the room rate of downtown Nashville, this Hampton Inn is a worthy option for anyone interested in exploring this part of Tennessee with free parking and pleasant surroundings. Downtown Nashville is not all that’s easily accessible. So is The Hermitage, the home of President Andrew Jackson and The Grand Ole’ Opry House. Old Hickory Lake, one of Tennessee’s prime spots for outdoor recreation is just four miles away. Another close-by gem is Rock Castle State Historic Site, the 18th century home of General Daniel Smith who is credited with naming Tennessee.
Except for the time at the wedding shower at a relative’s house, most of our time was spent at the hotel hanging out. The indoor swimming pool served the young kids well, and when we opted to order pizza for a crowd, the Hampton Inn’s lounge where breakfast is served during the day became an impromptu party space. The staff was happy to accommodate us and recommended the best place for pizza.
I eyed the beer sold in the hotel’s kiosk. More hotels need to follow this Hampton Inn’s pattern and offer a local craft beer. There were three options of Yazoo beer, a Nashville libation since 2003. I went with the Hefeweizen, a Bavarian style wheat malt that is a gold medal winner. The $4 price was splendid and the taste superb.
Several eateries are close by. Everything from Mexican to Chinese to Cajun and a sports bar are only a short walk away. I walked to the Barnes and Noble a block from the hotel for gift wrap and a card.

The double queen I shared with two of my aunts was spacious enough that we didn’t trip over each other or our belongings. Plus, a couple more people could fit in the room for a visit. The beds were comfortable and the furniture fit the modern decor of the rest of the hotel. The photograph of someone from the knees down with feet crossed and wearing cowgirl boots was a nod to Nashville’s country music scene.
During our stay, I noticed other families with several members. There was room for all of us to stake out space with plenty of room for other guests to use the business center without hassles and not get crowded out at breakfast.
The breakfast buffet of scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, several types of breads and pastries, yogurt and more did not disappoint. Each day, breakfast offerings slightly altered to provide interest. When breakfast is not being served, guests can get complimentary tea and coffee 24/7 in the lobby. No matter when I grabbed a cup, the coffee tasted fresh.

When booking, check to see if there’s a special deal. AARP members, for example, get a 15% discount through Sept. 30.
The Hampton Inn Nashville Hendersonville has double queen or king bed standard rooms and one room king or double queen bed suites. Currently, prices range between $155 and $179. Suite have a mini-fridge and a microwave. You can also compare rates and book through an OTA such as Booking.com.
As for the wedding weekend, we headed to Georgia.
