Soaking in Hot Springs at the UpValley Inn and Hot Springs in Calistoga

Set on the edge of Calistoga, Napa Valley’s most northern town, the UpValley Inn and Hot Springs offers budget-friendly accommodation close to everything that makes California’s wine country so great.

A short walk (or even shorter ride on the free Calistoga shuttle) brings guests to the town’s main street, lined with shops, restaurants, and tastings rooms. Within a few minutes on a bike or by car, guests can be at one of the dozens of wineries on the northern end of the Valley, dining at a Michelin-starred restaurant, or indulging in a relaxing spa treatment. And, they don’t have to shell out thousands for a weekend stay.
Room rates start at around $200 per night, a bargain for wine country. What guests get for the price is a room that’s comfortable and contemporary, with just about anything they could need (but not a lot of extras that drive up the price). Rooms have King or Queen beds and are divided into categories ranging from Standard to Premier.

All rooms have beautiful custom wallpaper, stylish wainscoting and wood headboards, laminate floors, mini fridges, work desks, flat-screen TVs, Keurig coffeemakers and all the other basics you’d expect from a modern mid-range hotel: a hairdryer, individual heating and cooling, alarm clock, USB outlets, iron and ironing board, blackout blinds, a phone with free local calls, and fuzzy bathrobes (though no slippers). There’s free wifi, free morning paper delivery, and cribs and rollaway beds are available.
Standard and Deluxe rooms have work desks, while Premium rooms also have a small sitting area. Some rooms also have patios/balconies and cozy fireplaces.

Of course, you don’t come to wine country to spend time inside and some of the best parts of the hotel are outside the rooms. First, there’s ample outdoor seating for relaxing with the morning paper or toasting a great day with a glass of wine. Arguably the best amenities, though, are the therapeutic dry sauna and steam room, and the 100% natural geothermal mineral water swimming pool and whirlpool.

Calistoga has long been known for its healing mineral waters that come from deep underground; Samuel Brannan discovered the area in 1859, and for nearly 150 years, visitors have been traveling to the area to relax in the hot springs. For guests at the UpValley Inn and Spa, the journey is a short one: just a few steps from hotel room to hot spring pool.

With modest yet modern rooms, a great location, a steaming hot spring pool, and a great price,  the UpValley Inn and Hot Springs is an excellent choice for a Napa getaway on a budget.
