It’s easy to fill your days when visiting Napa Valley. But if relaxing is part of your ideal wine country getaway, selecting the right hotel is essential. Rancho Caymus Inn, a small boutique property tucked just off the main road in Rutherford, makes it easy to put up your feet and take a breather.
With just 26 rooms and suites, Rancho Caymus Inn is small when compared to most hotel properties in wine country. With just two floors, all rooms surround a center courtyard with a pool and hot tub. Using materials from a 19th century barn in Ohio, the Spanish hacienda-style inn was built in 1984 by Mary Tilden Morton of Morton salt, and Berkeley, California’s, Tilden Park.
The property has four room categories, but the design and color scheme is consistent throughout. All rooms have beamed ceilings, (Rooms on the second floor also have vaulted ceilings.) creamy colored stucco walls, wood furnishings, a gas-burning fireplace, television, refrigerator, and Keurig coffee maker. Textiles from Ecuador, used by Morton in the original property design as pillow and seat covers have been preserved, adding color to rooms as framed artwork. With the exception of one room, all accommodations have a balcony or patio.
For those seeking extra space, Premium Suites provide a generous sitting area with a sofa, chair, coffee table and second television. The bright white master bath contrasts the darker, wood elements found in the bedroom area and living space. The dual sink vanity offers plenty of room for two, (There’s also a separate nook with a make-up mirror and counter located in the bedroom area.) but the oversize shower, complete with a stained glass window that does double duty as the exterior wall, is a vivid attention grabber.
Colorful details can found throughout the exterior of the property as well. Spanish tiles line both exterior staircases, the pool and hot tub. A mosaic mural by artist Guillermo Wagner Granizo adds even more punch. Poolside fire pits and blooming hanging baskets make the space a nice place to relax, day or night. An additional courtyard boasts a stone fireplace and plenty of cushy seats perfect for relaxing with a glass of wine or curling up with a good book.

There is no restaurant onsite, but a complimentary breakfast is included with every stay. Served buffet style, options include breakfast sandwiches, homemade granola, assorted pastries, fresh fruit, charcuterie and cheese, along with coffee, tea and juice.
A bites menu including selections such as tortilla chips and guacamole, hummus and pita chips, and cookies, is available daily from 12pm to 6:30pm. Beer and wine by the glass or bottle is available at any hour. Room service is available for both breakfast and the bites menu, for an additional $5.
Deluxe King room rates range from $395 to $595. Premium Suites range from $595 to $795. There is also a $20 per room, per night resort fee. All rooms have king beds. If you’re traveling with a child, request a rolling bed in advance. You can compare rates and book the hotel through Booking.com or other OTAs.
