If you’re lucky, when you arrive at the Park Hyatt Melbourne, one of the first employees to greet you will be Mr. Walker. He’ll delay your check-in by a few moments, but the blonde Labrador, the hotel’s canine ambassador, knows how to put a smile on your face, especially after a long day of travel.
What’s waiting inside will likely make you happy as well. The hotel lobby is large and opulent, but still a comfortable public space. Check-in is fast and efficient. Fast moving elevators cover the property’s 20 floors. (Room keys must be swiped to reach floors featuring the property’s 240 guestrooms and suites.)
My King Room was spacious by city standards, with pops of grey and blue, and king bed topped with only white linens. Furnishings and décor gave it a bit of a sleek feel; a small balcony allowed just enough room to step out and take in views of the city and St. Patrick’s Cathedral.
The spa-inspired Italian marble bathroom featured double, elevated glass sinks, an oversize walk-in shower, and a jetted soaking tub with bath salts.
The toilet is located in a separate area, with door, providing privacy and allowing more than one person to comfortably use the bathroom at the same time. In addition to Le Labo toiletries, other essentials including dental and shaving kits are provided. A walk-in closet connects to the bath area.
Along with a Nespresso coffee machine, tea drinkers will be happy to know there is an electric tea kettle. Complimentary milk is available in the room’s refrigerator.
An international adaptor is provided in every room. It comes in handy if you’ve forgotten yours, or simply have much more that needs charging than you realized.
Select King Rooms are also Club Rooms that come with complimentary access to the Park Lounge. Located on the 19th floor, it offers extras including complimentary Continental breakfast, evening drinks and canapés, and non-alcoholic beverages throughout the day. It is not staffed during certain periods of the day, but guests are still welcome to relax and take in the city views.
The hotel boasts a number of amenities including a 25-meter indoor infinity pool, 24-hour fitness center, and rooftop tennis court.
Onsite Radii restaurant and bar serves a buffet-style breakfast with options to please just about every craving. The Continental option includes breads, pastries, fresh fruit, cereals, yogurt, greens, and a selection of cheeses and honey, and costs $23. The full breakfast option, with a selection of hot entrees including cooked to order eggs, waffles, oatmeal, soups, pancakes and French Toast, costs $29. Radii serves dinner Monday through Saturday. The property also serves traditional High Tea, including assorted finger sandwiches, house-baked scones with jam and cream, and handmade petit desserts, seven days a week.

Park Hyatt Melbourne’s central location makes exploring by foot easy. (You can say hello to Mr. Walker on your way out.) Designer-lined Collins Street, with names including Louis Vuitton, Gucci, and Dolce & Gabbana, is just half a mile away. Queen Victoria Market, a popular food and shopping hall, is 1.5 miles away. Trams within Melbourne’s central business district (CBD) are free for locals and tourists alike.
Rates for King Rooms with Club Access range from $296 to $596. Wi-fi access is complimentary when in the Park Lounge, but in-room access requires a fee. Valet parking is available for $50 per 24 hours. The property is smoke free.
