Set on the shore of Matavai Bay, the sound of crashing waves is likely the first thing you’ll notice at Le Tahiti by Pearl Resorts. Smile inducing views of black sand Lafayette Beach, the resort’s backyard, can be found throughout the property.

Le Tahiti by Pearl Resorts offers 91 rooms and suites, spread throughout four buildings. It takes a day or so to learn your way around, but it’s a fun property to explore. There are eight room categories to choose from, but all accommodations boast an ocean view. Premium Ocean View Rooms with a Hot Tub are spacious, with either a king bed or two twins. The room’s Polynesian feel is created mostly with the use of dark wood furnishings and flooring.

In addition to a balcony with views of the surf and sand, a large jetted bathtub is tucked behind wooden louvers that allow for privacy without restricting the beach view. I didn’t stay during whale season, but from July to November, guests can reportedly watch humpback whales from their balconies.

The bathroom vanity features a bowl sink and is large enough for two people to spread out. In addition to the expected toiletries, toothbrushes and razors are provided. There’s also a walk-in shower with rainfall shower head.

Along with a small refrigerator, guests will find a television, safe, Nespresso machine, and electric tea kettle.

Onsite Le Spa offers a range of treatments including massage, body scrubs, and facials. The fitness room is open 24/7.

Lafayette Beach is popular with swimmers. Chunks of white coral scattered on the volcanic black sand make for a fun walk, especially if you enjoy hunting for beach treasure. The resort’s large pool also offers water views and plenty of lounge chairs.

Oceanfront Hiti Mahana Restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. On the second and third Friday of the month the resort hosts a traditional Tahitian Dance Show at 7:30pm. You can enjoy the show while having dinner, or watch from the Bay Bar area.

Guests checking out between 3:30am and 6:30am can reserve an Express Early Breakfast. It includes juice, a hot drink, and a trio of mini-croissants. The cost is $15.

Le Tahiti by Pearl Resorts is located ten minutes from downtown Papeete. Free shuttle service is offered twice a day on weekdays, and once on Saturday mornings. The resort is about a 20 minute drive from the Fa’a’a International Airport, depending on traffic.

Rates for Premium Ocean View rooms with a hot tub start at $338. The property charges a daily resort fee of $8 per room. Wi-Fi and parking are included in that. See more at the official website or go to Hotels.com to compare rates.
