What’s the best way to enjoy the rugged coastline of Tofino? Certainly, getting outdoors to see it up close. But after your excursions in the rich ocean air, return to your room at the Pacific Sands Beach Resort on the crescent beachfront of Cox Bay. It’s the perfect spot to kick up your feet and continue to watch the sand and surf long after you’ve played.
The resort’s more than 41 acres on the rugged coastline allow you to feel like you have all the space in the world, and your choice of accommodations at the only all-suite resort in Tofino ranges from a variety of suites to full beach houses. Every room has an ocean view, and amenities include fully equipped kitchens, gas fireplaces, flat-screen TVs, balconies and more. Rates range from $123 to $720 (CAD), depending on type of room, time of year and length of stay.
My room during my stay here was a two-bedroom beach house, just steps from the beach. From the time I checked in to the time I left, my glass doors were wide open (but the screens were closed), letting the sweet ocean air into every inch of the house. It was incredibly convenient to be able to prepare my own breakfast or afternoon drinks in my kitchen. When my clothes were sandy from too many beach walks, all I had to do was run a load of laundry. I was alone, but the beach houses are ideal for families—allowing enough space for everyone.
The resort’s perch on Cox Bay allows guests to play all day on the beach, surf, check out tide pools, or walk along the Sunset Trail Boardwalk through the rain forest. There are also guided interpretive walks, a huge DVD library, as well as games for the entire family. In summer, a beachside barbecue features wild salmon cooked First Nations style over a roaring fire.
But don’t think that summer is the only time to stay at the Pacific Sands Resort in Tofino. In winter, guests have a front-row seat to fantastic storm watching opportunities while relaxing in their cozy rooms.
Stock your kitchen from the market in town, or from selections in the resort’s guest services building. If you’re up for a trip into town, a few top-notch restaurants—from Spotted Bear Bistro to Shelter to SoBo—may make you wish you had more time for a few visits. Don’t miss Tacofino’s original outdoor food truck or gourmet take-out from RedCan Gourmet.
My time in Tofino was far too short. I’m already trying to figure out when I can return.
