Napili Shores Maui by Outrigger: Napili Bay Paradise

Whether this is your first time to Maui or your 30th visit, you won’t be disappointed with the ocean views at Napili Shores Maui by Outrigger. Located on the northwest side of Maui in Lahaina, this part of the island offers beautiful weather, unlimited outdoor activities, plenty of dining options or simply the best place to relax by the pool. Eight miles from Lahina Historic Distric and 1 mile from Kapalua Golf Course, this Napili Shores hotel location is excellent.

Napili Shores Maui, and the entire Napili Bay, are very familiar to me. As a child I snorkeled and played in the waves here in Hawaii. We have vacationed at Napili Shores Maui with our own children. Now, fifty years later, I still return to the many Hawaiian resorts surrounding Napili Bay and Honokeana Bay.

With 152 rooms, 72 managed by Outrigger Resorts, this low rise resort is wonderfully family-friendly. An ideal place for a relaxing vacation, family reunion or multi-generational travel, Napili Shores Maui offers spacious rooms and well maintained grounds.

Well maintained koi pond surrounded by tropical island plants and palm trees at Napili Shores Maui by Outrigger.

Rooms are offered with either garden or ocean views. The two-story hotel is located on prime ocean front real estate. If you don’t plan on hanging out in your hotel room, opt for garden view rooms. With two swimming pools on property and a lovely garden grotto with koi pond and swaying palm trees, you’ll feel that tropical island vibe upon check-in.

Speaking of check-in, we had a quick and easy process. We flew into Kahului Airport, picked up our rental car and drove straight to Napili Shores Maui. Since our 2020 Maui visit, the world has changed. I recommend you book your rental car as soon as you know your Hawaii dates. Restaurant reservations should also be secured before leaving for your Hawaiian vacation.

We stayed in a king studio with an ocean view and private lanai. Room #175 in building I was the perfect place for a romantic holiday. We visited in November and had ideal weather. Our last Maui visit was in January and it rained every day. Don’t forget that this is Maui’s winter season.

Breakfast and lunch are served at The Gazebo Restaurant at Napili Shores Maui by Outrigger.

The whales were just starting to appear and the turtle sightings were abundant. In fact, next door at Honokeana Bay is a great place to see turtles. After an early morning stroll on Napili Beach, head to The Gazebo Restaurant for their famous macadamia nut pancakes. During our stay the lines for breakfast were long due to limited restaurant capacity.

King studio with island-inspired decor at Napili Shores Maui.

Our king studio included a fully stocked kitchen including a dishwasher, stove top/oven, microwave, full size refrigerator, coffee maker, tea kettle, cookware and utensils. A ceiling fan hung above our king bed, as well as one in the kitchen. Since our last visit, all units include air conditioning. Our bathroom included mini-sized shampoo, conditioner and lotion, as well as a hair dryer. Walk-in shower; no bathtub.

Our studio featured a huge mirror in the kitchen, which gave yet another view of the Pacific Ocean. Additionally there was a kitchen table with 4 chairs and a large desk, love seat and lounge chair. The lanai included a glass-top table with four chairs. The king bed was comfortable and clean with island-inspired bedding and decor.

We loved the fact that there are no resort fees at this hotel. Napili Shores Maui offers free parking, free WiFi and free use of the multiple gas grills on property. My one complaint is that there was no where to recycle plastic or paper. I asked and was told to put my recyclables in a plastic garbage bag by the outside garbage bins. Clearly, recycling is not a priority if guests have to seek a recycling option.
