Four Points by Sheraton Manhattan Midtown West in NYC’s Hudson Yards

If you’re coming to the Big Apple for a show at The Jacob K. Javits Convention Center, consider staying at Four Points by Sheraton Manhattan Midtown West. While its address is 444 10th Avenue, the entrance is actually around the corner on 35th Street. If you stand at the front door of the hotel and look west along 35th, you’ll see the Javits Center ahead of you at 11th Street just beyond Bella Abzug Park. Couldn’t be easier to find.

Location is key

It’s not always the primary determinant in choosing a hotel, but it definitely makes a difference if you’re headed to New York City: it’s a big place — more than 302 square miles. If you don’t pay attention to location, you could end up spending big bucks on taxis or Ubers to get to where you want to go.

Why? New York City comprises five boroughs in the southeastern part of New York State where the Hudson River meets the Atlantic Ocean. Unless you’re a free-range tourist with no specific destinations in mind, you probably want to be based in Manhattan. Then, look at the map. If there’s a bus route or subway line near your hotel of choice, all the better. This Four Points by Sheraton, for example, is just two blocks from the entrance to the 34th Street – Hudson Yards Subway station. From there, it’s a short ride to Times Square or Grand Central Station and all sorts of connecting lines.

Room size? On the small side

Guestroom Four Points by Sheraton Manhattan Midtown WestThe guestrooms at the Four Points by Sheraton Manhattan Midtown West are on the small side (mine was 180 sq.ft.), but the beds are plush pillowtops and the bathrooms well-lit. There’s free WiFi throughout, and an adequate desk for a laptop, notebooks, and such. There’s a large flat-screen television, but I must confess I never even turned it on. The hotel is pet friendly.

Bathroom, Four Points by Sheraton Manhattan Midtown WestI was there in late January 2022. COVID-19 protocols were still in force (virtually everyone I saw in New York City was masked — even the outdoor construction workers on nearby building sites). I wasn’t asked my preference at check-in, but during the four nights I was there, I had no housekeeping service — not even a towel refresh. I didn’t really mind (and I never asked). The little time I spent in my room was hunched over the desk, writing away.

Bar and Restaurant Four Points by Sheraton Manhattan Midtown West hotel photoWhile the lobby area is glam — lots of gold — it’s rather small. The bar, for example, has just four stools. The restaurant is one row of small tables (but there are lots of dining choices in the surrounding neighborhood). Breakfast on site starts about $16, but you can walk out the door and find a food truck a block away offering basically the same choices for far less. There’s also a Fresh & Co. right on the corner of 35th and Tenth Avenue if you want more choices nearby (I can vouch for their oatmeal: yum!). The rooms do have coffee makers.

The hotel has a 24-hour fitness center and a business center with all the usual equipment.

Room rates vary at Four Points by Sheraton

It’s hard to pin down a room rate in New York without specific dates because pricing changes according to the seasons, the day of the week, and what’s happening in town. I paid about $120/per night in late January at the Four Points by Sheraton Manhattan Midtown West, but I’ve seen the same room listed upwards of $380. You can make a reservation on the hotel’s website or via one of the usual booking sites such as Expedia or Hotels.com.

Four Points by Sheraton is part of Marriott International. If you participate in Marriott Bonvoy, this hotel is Category 6. We’ve reviewed other Marriott Bonvoy Hotels, including the W New York Downtown.
