These are part of international chains, yes, but high-end ones that don’t span the whole globe.

Four Seasons Madrid

Four Seasons is probably the most-recognized luxury hotel brand in the world and every address they occupy is a prestige one for visitors. This central Madrid hotel is just a few minutes walk from Puerta del Sol, Gran Via Street, Plaza Mayor, and the Prado Museum. It is made up of seven historic buildings in the center that contain different public areas and rooms. 

There’s an indoor pool, four-level spa, steam room, and gym. The signature restaurant is manned by a Spanish celebrity chef. The rooms are some of the most luxurious in the city, with minibars, robes, 65-inch TVs, high-end bath products, and turndown service each evening.

Rosewood Villa Magna

Rosewood is best known for its properties in North America, including one in Silicon Valley that we have reviewed here, but they are continuing to branch out in Europe. This Salamanca area luxury hotel on Paseo de la Castellana opened in 2021 after a complete renovation of a 1970s building and is able to command rates running from €800 to €2,000. It scored the spot as the #1 hotel in Spain in a recent Conde Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice awards issue. 

With 148 rooms, it’s not an overwhelming place to stay in Madrid, but it does have multiple restaurants, a gym, spa, and rooftop terrace. Rooms are on the spacious side for Europe, the smallest being 323 square feet. See more information here
