Taking the Waters at Lithia Springs Resort, Ashland, Oregon

There are plenty of hotel options in Ashland, Oregon. If you are looking for a mineral waters retreat, taking the waters at Lithia Springs Resort in Ashland might be the place for you. This Southern Oregon property is the size of a boutique hotel, but the grounds are expansive.

This getaway destination in Ashland is near downtown, Rogue Valley wine country and Lithia Park. While it would make an ideal home base for the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, it seems a shame to come and go, when this property is a vacation unto itself.

My husband and I enjoyed a winter stay, but were still able to walk the 4 acre grounds. The outdoor fire pit would make a wonderful gathering spot anytime of year for a wellness weekend, romantic escape, or family holiday.

The 38-room property offers family-friendly bungalows, pet-friendly rooms, romantic suites and studios. During our stay we watched mothers with toddlers, as well as adult daughters enjoying a wellness weekend with their mother. Many repeat guests return to take the waters at Lithia Springs Resort on an annual basis. In fact, the Southern Oregon resort rewards returning guests with a price break.

The hotel, established in 1991, continues to add to its wine garden atmosphere with a gazebo on property. A small bridge, leads guests from the koi pond and fountain to the outdoor swimming pool and hot tub. The pool is heated seasonally. Adventurous guests are welcome to take a plunge in the pool, followed by a soak in the outdoor hot tub. Personally, I’d rather take a mineral water soak in my private bathtub in our room.

Speaking of hotel rooms, we stayed in the Water Lily suite, one of several suites on the property. The suite featured a king bed, wet bar area with mini fridge, sink and microwave oven, as well as a flatscreen television. The focal point of the room was the 2-person soaking tub, across from the gas fireplace. I say focal point because our entire purpose of visiting Lithia Springs Resort was taking the waters.

The mineral water hot springs are deep underground, below the Lithia Springs Resort. The rooms, as well as the swimming pool, make use of the springs. Filtered water is piped into the tub, shower and tap for guests drinking water. The natural waters are said to have restorative, healing powers. Regardless of their restorative claims, who doesn’t like soaking in hot water in their private hotel room?

Waterstone Spa is attached to Lithia Springs Resort, with a larger day spa of the same name in downtown Ashland. I did not experience any spa service at Waterstone, but the waiting room looked nice. Resort guests may reserve a massage or facial at the Southern Oregon property.

While there is no restaurant at Lithia Springs Resort, the hotel does offer a Wine Garden tasting room, as well as complimentary breakfast and afternoon tea. The Wine Garden features local Applegate Valley wines from the Rogue Valley wine region. Afternoon tea is served in the main hotel, along with scones, fresh fruit and cookies. Don’t miss the daily cookies in the jar by the table at reception.
