SpringHill Suites Denver Downtown Opens in Mile High City

The $45 million SpringHill Suites by Marriott Denver Downtown at Metro State entered the Mile High market in August 2012, and the new Marriott property hit the ground running with its prime location, affordable room rates and packages.

Location

Managed by Sage Hospitality, this contemporary hotel is located on the edge of the Metropolitan State University (MSU) across from the Pepsi Center, with convenient access from I-25 and off of Spper.  The property is also walkable to downtown Denver neighborhoods, including historic Larimer Square, pedestrian-only 16th Street Mall and the nightlife and dining of LoDo.  The boutique hotel also offers walkable access to the Denver Center for the Performing Arts.

Game Changer

Of course, many downtown Denver hotels offer this same walkable convenience, but the SpringHill Suites steps up its game by adding two affordable packages, starting at $149 with the Experience Downtown Denver package including accommodations, overnight parking, and $20 gift card for a quick burger at Red Robin’s Burger Works. Park your car and walk across the street to the Pepsi Center to enjoy the Denver Nuggets Package, starting at just $249 per night, including Club Level Denver Nuggets Tickets.

Arrival Experience

The reception desk is located at the entrance, and our arrival at 4:00 pm was quickly greeted by the valet, and then the two receptionists. Check-in was smooth and effortless, but you’ll be distracted by the beautiful open space of the lobby.

Bright orange splashes of color mixes with modern furniture, living room style, and tall tables. The lobby naturally opens up to a view of downtown Denver through glass windows and doors, with historic LoDo a few blocks to the right.

Off the lobby and near the entrance is an outdoor patio with a fire pit, perfect for Denver’s 300 days of sunshine.

Accommodations

The SpringHill Suites by Marriott Denver Downtown at Metro State offers 150 guest suites, and if you haven’t been convinced yet, once you step into your room, you’ll sense the modern, European-esque feel of the rooms.

Spacious and stylish, each room offers work space which divides the seating area with a pull-out sofa from the king bed or two double beds. Each suite also includes a microwave and mini-fridge. The bedding is lush and super comfortable with a moderate size bathroom.  My view was of the Pepsi Center and Auraria Parkway, but from how the hotel is positioned, I doubt there’s a room with a bad view.

Amenities

Your accommodations include a daily complimentary hot breakfast, served in the lobby, and my husband I woke up ready for a strong cup of coffee and a good breakfast – and we were hoping it wasn’t a lame continental breakfast.  We were happily surprised with the buffet: hot, fresh scrambled eggs (optional cheese and salsa), sausage patties, fresh fruit, yogurt, and make-your-own waffles. My favorite was the selection of bread with my favorite spread- Nutella!

The recently opened Red Robin Works, located in the adjoining MSU hospitality building, offers a fast casual restaurant with burgers, sandwiches and salads.

For those who enjoy a nightcap at the hotel, unfortunately this won’t happen at SpringHill as there is no on-site bar. Still you are close enough (a few blocks) to enjoy downtown Denver’s bars and restaurants.

Metro State University and Meeting Space

You can’t help but notice the artwork, bold, beautiful, modern, nostalgic, a mix of more than 650 original paintings and pieces scattered throughout the hotel and created by 21 students, faculty, and alumni of MSU. The artwork is just one aspect that the campus brings to SpringHill Suites as the site is also home to MSU Denver’s new Hotel and Hospitality Learning Center (HLC).

Each semester, students will work in the hotel as an additional hands-on benefit to their education, while the majority of their learning will occur at the adjoining 28,000 square foot educational facility with its interactive labs and experiential curriculum. The classrooms are open to meetings and events, including a Sensory Analysis Laboratory with its 3,100+ wine storage cellar.

With an additional 5,000 square feet of meeting space within the hotel, SpringHill Suites Denver does hope to attract business travelers and corporate events during the week, but leisure travelers will rule the weekend.
