Ashland Hills Hotel & Suites, Value in Southern Oregon

Looking for a budget-friendly hotel that is centrally located near downtown Ashland, Oregon? Ashland Hills Hotel & Suites offers value, combined with friendly customer service in Southern Oregon.

Mid-century modern lime green velvet sofa with 2 matching chairs flank the hotel lobby reception area. A giant green-mossy peace sign is suspended from above the picture window looking out to the front of the Ashland, Oregon hotel.

Located at the base of the Siskiyou mountains and only 14 miles north of the California border, off I-5, this family-friendly Ashland hotel is a sure bet.

My husband and I have stayed before in Ashland, Oregon to attend a cheese festival. This March visit, I confess that we were again attending a food-related festival. This time we were here for the Oregon Chocolate Festival. We had booked the Chocolate Escape Package and it was sweet! Pun intended.

The 3-star hotel sits on 14 acres and is close to local wineries, mountain lakes and downtown Ashland. Home to the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, Oregon Cabaret Theatre and numerous boutique shops, you’ll want to book ahead during popular Southern Oregon events.

The recently remodeled hotel was built around 1977. With 103 rooms and 11 suites, the mid-century modern hotel has a Jetson-family tv show vibe. I loved the groovy, large green peace symbol hanging in the lobby of the Ashland, Oregon hotel. Cheryl Strayed might have liked staying here when she hiked on the Pacific Crest Trail back in the day.

Ashland Hills Hotel rooms & suites

We stayed in room #265 on the second floor of the three-story hotel. It took a minute for me to get my bearings, as the hotel is built into the hillside and buildings circle around the property. Our standard king room was spacious with retro-chic furniture. It snowed on our visit so we didn’t utilize the small balcony.

The bathroom, with walk-in shower, featured yellow tile that reminded me of my grandmother’s house. With the mid-century modern design, this hotel can get away with a lot of shag pillows and peace signs on the door hangers. I would have loved a spa robe and slippers. You’ll need to stay at their more upscale sister property for those types of spa amenities.

Our room included in-room coffee maker, a flat screen tv with HBO and a mini fridge. There was also a safe in the closet, along with a hair dryer. My tip for this hotel is to ask for a courtyard facing room, which also offers mountain views.

Luna Cafe Drinks and Dining

There is indoor and outdoor dining (weather-permitting) offered at Luna Cafe. A generous complimentary continental breakfast is offered from 7-10 a.m. at Ashland Hills Hotel & Suites.

Luna Cafe features a lunch and dinner menu. I enjoyed a Luna salad, while my husband ordered the BLT sandwich. I’m told the Gin Library offers a wide selection.

Finally, if you are attending the Chocolate Festival, be sure to sign up for the Chocolate Brunch on property or the Chocolate Makers Wine Dinner at Ashland Springs Hotel. You don’t need to be a guest of the hotel to reserve tickets for the buffet style menu at Ashland Hills & Suites.

Activities at Ashland Hills Hotel

In addition to an outdoor swimming pool and year-round hot tub, there are plenty of activities to get your blood pumping. Complimentary bicycles are outside of the hotel lobby. There is an indoor fitness center and outdoor pickleball and tennis courts for guests.

For the children, grab the Gnomeville paper map at the front desk and embark on a treasure hunt – with prizes. To date, there are 16 gnome families scattered about the hotel property. You’ll find 2 of the painted doors leading to their underground burrows  by the hotel lobby and near Luna Cafe. Think small.
