There are a lot of Tulum hotels in the hotel zone. Some specialize in wellness, offer great food, or have super luxurious facilities. Lula, the newest hotel in the Colibri hotel group family, has a little bit of everything — a full wellness schedule, a collection of great dining options at their various Tulum hotels, an on-site spa and luxury beach goods store, and a jungle-encased swimming pool to boot. But instead of the overdone beach-vibe ambiance — palapa roofs, everything in shades of beige, and minimalist decor — Lula goes bigger and better.
It can be hard to label the overall style of the hotel. Pops of bright yellow and blue brighten up both outdoor and indoor spaces, retro-chic tiled floors, a 1950s-style mini fridge, and a record player with vintage vinyls contrast the western boho chic of the massive woven dream catchers that hang above the beds. The tree trunk coffee tables, and embroidered pillows and blankets. Its inability to categorize only adds to the fresh and unique feeling the hotel exudes. Lula is creating its own fun all the time with activities, community meals, and an easy-going vibe that encourages guests to get to know one another.
Rooms and suites occupy two sides of the hotel, one beachfront and the other tucked into the jungle on the other side of the main hotel zone road. Rooms come in six categories. First is the massive ground floor master suite on the beach side with a separate sitting room, private back patio, bathing nook with a stand-alone claw-foot tub, and a spacious bathroom with a rain shower head. Then there are two upper-level balcony suites that face the interior beach area, five ground-floor beach suites, 5 upper-level beach suites, two jungle suites, and two jungle rooms.

All rooms have fun amenities like a woven beach bag you are welcome to use while staying at the hotel, local organic toiletries, and a turn-down service that includes Mexican chocolate bonbons and Mexican hot chocolate. Then there are the customary things like free wi-fi, fans, iron and ironing board, a lockbox, minifridges, and king-sized beds. The on-site restaurant Lula’s Kitchen is a step above regular hotel fare with items like sweet potato pancakes that are divine and a list of healthy juice shots and less-healthy alcohol shots. The dining area is beachfront with an incredible view of the blue Caribbean beyond. They also offer a mix of dining options at their other hotels, such as Thai at Mezzanine or a taco tasting menu at La Zebra next door. If you need to head out early, they are happy to pack you a delicious to-go breakfast and coffee that will be waiting for you when you leave.
Lula offers a full list of wellness options in their fishbowl yoga room surrounded by palm trees and with a view of the ocean — you can start your day with yoga, break for an ice bath in the afternoon, and take a sound bath before bedtime. They also have a lovely on-site spa with a full menu of treatments. The spa’s shop sells beach dresses, wide-brimmed hats, local crafts, shoes and more. There is also on-site parking.
Also, Lula’s staff is fun, welcoming, and accommodating, and they are looking to make your stay easier and more enjoyable at every turn. Any issue I had while there was met with kindness and patience. For a place that has a little bit of everything and is lively and fun in Tulum, Lula ticks all the boxes.
