During my recent visit to St. Augustine, I stayed at the Centennial House, a charming bed and breakfast across the street from and associated with the Carriage Way Inn. The experience was wonderful, combining historic elegance, modern comforts, and warm, personalized service. There is a reason that the Carriage Way Inn displays so many awards as the best B&B in St. Augustine.
Location
Centennial House is ideally situated in the heart of St. Augustine’s historic district, making it an excellent choice for anyone wanting to immerse themselves in the rich history of America’s oldest city. Just a few blocks away from Flagler College, the famed Bridge of Lions, and the waterfront of the Intracoastal Waterway, the inn offers guests a unique opportunity to explore the city’s most iconic attractions on foot.
I loved strolling through the brick streets, feeling like I had stepped back in time. The nearby Lightner Museum and the Castillo de San Marco were both within walking distance, allowing me to fully appreciate St. Augustine’s historic sites and architectural beauty without a car.

Accommodations
The rooms at Centennial House are thoughtfully designed to blend historic decor with modern luxury, providing a cozy and elegant retreat after a day of exploring. My room featured a beautiful antique bed, plush Serta® pillow top mattress, and luxurious linens that made for a restful night’s sleep.
The private en suite bathroom was equipped with high-end Poggesi® toiletries and soft towels from The Turkish Towel Company®, adding a touch of luxury to my stay. I also appreciated the attention to detail, such as the provided Boca Terry Spa® bathrobes, which pampered me.
Amenities
The amenities at Centennial House are thoughtfully curated to enhance the guest experience. The Chef’s Choice hot breakfast, usually served each morning in the main inn, was a delightful start to each day. The variety and quality of the breakfast options were impressive, ranging from hearty entrees to freshly baked pastries and cut fruit.
One morning, I enjoyed a perfectly prepared frittata with sausage and fresh berries, while the next featured a delicious French toast bake with ham. The breakfast was served in an inviting dining area.
In addition to breakfast, the inn provides complimentary beverages, including wine, sodas, coffee, hot tea, bottled water, and freshly baked cookies every afternoon. These little touches made me feel right at home and added to the overall comfort of my stay.
The inn also features a parlor and downstairs verandas, perfect for relaxing with a book or simply enjoying the peaceful ambiance of the neighborhood. The wireless internet access was reliable.
Service
The service at Centennial House truly sets it apart. From the moment I arrived, I was greeted with warmth and hospitality. The staff ensured my stay was comfortable and enjoyable, providing personalized attention and anticipating my needs. The innkeeper, Marcia, was particularly wonderful, offering detailed instructions for my after-hours check-in and ensuring I had everything I needed throughout my stay. The staff’s genuine friendliness and dedication to guest satisfaction were evident in every interaction, making me feel like a valued guest rather than just another visitor.
Adults-Only
The Centennial House and the Carriage Way Inn are adult-only. They are great for couples seeking a romantic getaway to St. Augustine or solo travelers seeking a peaceful retreat, but they are not an option for family travelers. Historic Charm and Modern Convenience
One of the aspects I most appreciated about Centennial House was its ability to blend historic charm with modern conveniences seamlessly. The inn is a nationally registered Certified Historic Structure, and its rich history is evident in its beautiful architecture and period furnishings. Yet, despite its historic nature, the inn offers all the modern amenities one could desire, from individually controlled HVAC units in each room, which was essential since my visit was in July. The sound insulation in the rooms ensured a quiet and restful environment, which was much appreciated after a long day of sightseeing.
Whether you’re visiting St. Augustine for a romantic getaway, a special celebration, or to explore the city’s rich history, Centennial House is the perfect choice. The inn’s central location, luxurious accommodations, and exceptional service stand out among St. Augustine’s many lodging options.
Conclusion
My stay at Centennial House in St. Augustine was wonderful. The combination of its prime location, historic charm, amenities, and service made it a place I would be pleased to return to when I am in the city again. Whether planning a trip to St. Augustine for the first time or returning to explore more of this beautiful city, I highly recommend staying at Centennial House. It’s the perfect place to relax, unwind, and immerse yourself in the culture an history of America’s oldest city.
