Adults-only escape to Puerto Vallarta at Secrets Vallarta Bay

Secrets Vallarta Bay Swim Out Room

Most places people travel for beach vacations have one thing in common: plenty of resorts. Mexico is no exception to this, with resorts lining the coasts from Cabo to Cancun. As Mexican resorts offer so many amenities and activities, they are often overrun with large families and lots of children. This isn’t necessarily the kind of atmosphere people are looking for when they travel to a beach oasis like Puerto Vallarta.

For the traveler who wants something a little more relaxing and exclusive than the sometimes-chaotic atmosphere of family-friendly resorts, there is Secrets Vallarta Bay, an adults-only resort in Puerto Vallarta that opened in 2012.

Adults Only Secrets Resort

Secrets Vallarta Bay’s most important feature is that it caters only to adults. No children are allowed in this all-suite resort with 271 rooms, geared towards couples and single adults. The resort prides itself on customer service–anything to make your stay as enjoyable and stress-free as possible.

All rooms at Secrets Vallarta Bay are suites. There are six different levels of pricing, including oceanfront swim-out, master suites, and preferred club level rooms with their own private lounge.

All suites are non-smoking and feature climate control, daily turndown service, and a bathroom with a shower and Jacuzzi. They’ve got a minibar with no price list needed and room service is available in the all-inclusive price. Room rates fluctuate depending on the season, so keep that in mind when planning your visit. The most expensive time is December through April, when Americans and Canadians are escaping the cold. Summer offers the best deals.

Dining options

Secrets has several dining options, none of which require reservations. However, some do have a dress code, so make sure to double-check this before you venture out to eat. The dining options include Bordeaux, which offers French cuisine, and Oceano, which specializes in seafood. Himitsu, located in the neighboring family-friendly sister property Now Amber resort (now changed to Breezes), is another adult-only dining option.

You can order food poolside and if you feel like staying in, Secrets also offers 24-hour room service.

Outdoor activities

Located on the beautiful Banderas Bay, Secrets is ideal for the water lover. The resort itself has four swimming pools and a Jacuzzi, as well as a swim-up bar and beachfront access. The ocean is safe for swimming, although it is not the best for snorkeling.

If you want to snorkel, ask the concierge to plan a day trip for you to the Southern Zone, where the Sierra Madre meets Banderas Bay and The Arches. Or go up north to the areas around Punta de Mita. For golf enthusiasts, Secrets also offers complimentary green fees at a local course.

If you are going to Puerto Vallarta to relax and unwind, check out the Secrets Spa by Pevonia. The spa offers many different treatments, as well as a Jacuzzi, steam room, relaxation room, and use of the locker room. It also includes the water circuit, so if you go, make sure to bring your bathing suit and allow an hour either before or after your treatment to try it out.
