Some of Maui’s most luxurious lodgings can be found on Wailea Beach on the island’s southwest side; among them, the Wailea Beach Villas are one of the most exclusive of the high-end properties found on this long stretch of sand.
As the name implies, the villas offer a different experience than the hotels nearby. While they offer easy access to shopping and dining just a short walk away, the luxury residences offer a more secluded setting and truly make guests feel as if they’re staying in their own private paradise.
Every villa is unique, but all are decorated with new furnishings, marble floors, custom wood furniture and accents, high-quality linens, and state-of-the-art electronics. Guests can choose from either a 2-bedroom, 2-bath villa or a 4-bedroom, 3-bath villa. All villas have more than 2,500 square feet of space, including marble bathrooms with jetted tubs, spacious dining and living rooms with surround sound theatre, office space with wifi, laundry facilities, and gorgeous modern kitchens with wood cabinets, marble countertops, bar seating, two subzero refrigerators, dishwasher, oven, and all the supplies you could need, including coffee and espresso makers, panini grills, wafflemakers, blenders, pots and pans.
The private lanais overlook the pools and gardens, with full or partial ocean views, and offer seating and massive outdoor grills, which – coupled with the other kitchen amenities – make cooking in an appealing option despite the bevy of dining choices nearby. In fact, guests can even arrange to have the kitchen stocked with groceries upon arrival.
After several nights indulging in Maui’s fantastic food, the ability to cook a simple dinner or whip up a fruit smoothie in the blender was a welcome change.
My 2-bedroom villa was exquisite, decorated in rich camel and deep red tons, with a very comfortable bed and opulent marble bathroom. The balcony lanai overlooked the family pool; the adults-only beachfront infinity pool was just a short walk from the ground floor entrance and the Shops at Wailea (which also contain several restaurants) were just across the street.
While the villas feel very secluded, the location is actually ideal, with dozens of restaurants within walking distance, either at the Shops at Wailea or just down the beachfront path. In fact, there were so many options within a few minutes’ walk, that once I parked the car, I never drove again until I left. The hotel’s concierge can make arrangements for reservations, as well as other activities including golfing at a nearby course, spa treatments, and day tours.
I appreciated that, while the villas do have a residential feel, the staff is still very present and accessible. The concierge gave me some great restaurant recommendations, made the reservations and offered me a coupon, and my villa was cleaned daily and turned down each night. Upon arrival, a porter not only showed me to my room and handled by bags, he even unpacked my groceries.
In addition to the two pools with towel attendant, jacuzzi, and beach with chairs and umbrellas, the hotel also offers a small gym, high-speed wireless, multiple car parking, and golf discounts included in the rates, and there are no daily resort fees. Rates for 2-bedroom villas start at $895 per night, with a 5 night minimum. When compared to the average cost of other luxury properties on this stretch of beach, it’s a great value for the level of quality and service, and the spectacular secluded yet accessible location on Wailea Beach.

I was a guest of the Wailea Beach Villas, but all opinions are my own.
