April Showers Bring May Flowers: Hotel Flowers that Delight

Dogwood trees in Kentucky

April showers bring May flowers and several hotels have gardens and flowerbeds that add to their ambiance.

Here are a few beauties from California to London that we’ve seen over the years at Hotel Scoop.

The Carmel Garden Inn in Carmel-by-the-Sea,  California wowed Kristin Winet back 2013 when she and her husband hobnobbed with other travelers. Although the inn has a different inn keeper, the gardens and hospitality continue to be a draw.

Each of the five mini private suites boast garden-themed names like Lavender and Hyacinth and have a private garden. Other guest rooms: Orchid, Iris, Violet and Jade have a wood-burning fireplace, a fridge and a microwave. In 2018 and 2019, Carmel Garden Inn won the Golden Pine Cone Award for best B&B.

Room rates on the inn’s website range from $199 to $289 depending upon the day of the week and the type of room.

In April and through the summer, the gardens and grounds at The Broadmoor Hotel in Colorado Springs, Colorado are gorgeous. I wandered around this hotel two years ago, but Nancy Brown had the pleasure of an overnight stay. The Broadmoor is the definition of elegance and class. Hanging flower baskets, flower gardens, manicured lawns, fountains and a lake offer beauty for wandering around the vast resort property.

Opened in 1918, The Broadmoor was owned by Spencer Penrose, a very wealthy fellow who made his fortune in real estate, gold mining and ore processing. The inside is as magnificent as the outside and definitely worth a look whether you stay as a guest or not.

Sunday, June 28, 2020, The Broadmoor will once more be opened for local and overnight guests.

Southeastern Kentucky is gorgeous in April with redbuds and dogwood trees in bloom. Jenny Wiley State Park’s May Lodge is surrounded by dogwood trees in a show of nature’s beauty is pure pleasure. Even the Hampton Inn in Hazard, Kentucky has dogwood trees gracing its property. Unfortunately, because of COVID-19, I didn’t make my Kentucky spring jaunt, but the photo is a soothing reminder.

Although, May Lodge is currently closed due to Covid-19, the Jenny Wiley State Park is open. The Hampton Inn in Hazard is open still for overnight guests, but there are limited amenities.

Glacier Park Lodge Flowers

Glacier Park Lodge will open June 3, 2020

By summer, East Glacier, Montana is a color burst. The gardens in front of Glacier Park Lodge are a splendid mix of brilliant colors. Tim Leffel had the pleasure of an Glacier Park Lodge stay after my visit a few years ago. This is one of my husband’s favorite places in the world as he worked here in his college days. On our last visit, my favorite memory is playing some sort of lawn game next to the gardens with my son and friends of ours. Guests can check out games as a hotel amenity. Hopefully, like Tim said, Glacier Park Lodge will be open for business on time for the June 3 opening day. Reservations can be made at the lodge website.

In Hyde Park, London

Although Corus Hotel Hyde Park in London doesn’t have its own garden, its location across from London’s Hyde Park makes for a wonderful garden-loving stay. Hyde Park is connected to Kensington Gardens, one of the Royal Parks of London. When I stayed at Corus Hotel last summer, we got up in the morning and walked across the park to see the Changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace. The location could not have been more perfect. I made reservations for this hotel at Hotels.com

Book any of these hotels at their websites, or search for them and compare rates at any of the online booking sites such as Expedia, Booking.com or others.
