New Hampshire is most popular for its beautiful foliage and world-class ski resorts, but my favorite thing is the tax-free shopping. I’ve visited North Conway, New Hampshire for outlet shopping since I was a child, and watched as the outlets slowly moved from standalone buildings to Settlers’ Green Outlet Village, a huge outlet mall. When I saw a hotel being built right at the foot of Settlers Green, I knew it would be a place I’d absolutely want to stay. It’s been there for many years now, and it’s one of my favorite hotels in New Hampshire.
The North Conway Grand is a kid-friendly hotel with loads of amenities, including an indoor fitness center, a day spa (in-room treatments are also available), a year-round heated outdoor swimming pool, a fire pit, an exercise room, a kiddie pool, and an on-site restaurant. It’s also just a few steps away from the Settlers Green Outlet Village, making it the perfect hotel for outlet shoppers. As you can see in the photo below, the outlets are very close to the hotel property.
The inside of the hotel is surprisingly cozy. While the exterior looks modern and standard, the lobby has a more rustic feel – exactly what you’d expect in New Hampshire. The staff is friendly, helpful, and more than willing to help with any concerns. Rooms at the North Conway Grand are pretty standard, although they do offer microwaves, refrigerators, DVD players (a lending library is available), and free wireless internet access. Jacuzzi suites and family suites are also available, if you are looking for more space.
While there are lots of things to do in North Conway, the hotel amenities are a draw for those looking for a more relaxing vacation. During our stays, we’ve definitely noticed lots of families taking advantage of the three pools. Everything is very clean, although the area near the indoor pool has a strong chlorine odor. I’m particularly sensitive to it, but if you are too, you may want to request a room far from the pool.
The hotel’s on-site restaurant, the Mountainside Restaurant, offers free breakfast to kids under 12. We ate breakfast a few times there and enjoyed the breakfast buffet. There are better breakfast option in North Conway, but this is the most convenient. The restaurant is also open in the evenings for dinner, but we didn’t check it out.
I’d definitely recommend a stay at the North Conway Grand if outlet shopping is in your plans – especially if you are traveling with children.
