Escape to Luxury Wellness Retreat Lumeria Maui, Hawaii

Lumeria Maui

Hawaii is a great place to experience a little bit of island paradise. However, as tends to be the case with beach destinations, it can often be overrun with tourists. If you want to experience Hawaii in a truly tranquil restorative, retreat environment, Lumeria Maui is an ideal destination. Located in Makawao in central Maui, Lumeria is a 24 room oasis where you can take part in meditation or yoga classes or catch a little R&R.

Island style

You catch a glimpse of what Lumeria is all about as soon as you arrive. Guests are greeted with a hot hand towel and a glass of refreshing lemon water upon arrival. In front of the registration building, a soothing water feature catches your eye and who knows, it might even help to lower your blood pressure. After-all, Lumeria is all about relaxing, slowing down and taking in the native Hawaiian landscape.

Each room on this former plantation has a Hawaiian name. I love that the shower features local river rock stones on the floor, bringing nature inside the rooms. Cell phones do work on the property, but there are no televisions or phones in the rooms. Lumeria also has a meditation room and three spa treatment rooms, as well as a central lawn dedicated to meditation and yoga on sunny days.

Local culture

Lumeria bills itself as an educational, adventure experience. As such, there are daily yoga and meditation classes, as well as weekly horticulture and aromatherapy classes. Drop in yoga is available for $20, or $15 for Hawaiian local residents. For an additional charge, guests may dine at Lumeria’s Harvest Café, where the three-course evening meal features local, organic vegetables and side dishes, as well as a homemade dessert.
