Last week, we escaped the brutal winter weather that we’ve had here in Boston, and traveled to Phoenix, Arizona for the kids’ winter break. We avoided three different snow storms in Massachusetts, and enjoyed warmer than usual temperatures in Arizona. For the second half of our stay, we relaxed at the Pointe Hilton Squaw Peak, a family-friendly resort that I can’t wait to return to.
There are two Pointe Hilton Resorts in Phoenix, the Pointe Hilton Squaw Peak and the Pointe Hilton Tapatio Cliffs. These resorts are currently the only resorts in the Hilton collection with the “Pointe” branding, a holdover from the prior owner of the resorts. The Pointe Hilton Squaw Peak is located in a relatively quiet area of North Phoenix, away from downtown. This all-suite hotel offers 563 suites which includes 80 one or two-bedroom casitas over 27 acres of property. They are absolutely perfect for families – with accommodations and amenities that were created with families in mind.
The Suites at the Pointe Hilton Squaw Peak
All of the accommodations at the Pointe Hilton Squaw Peak are suites. The regular suites offer two rooms with one bathroom, with a living space that includes a pull-out sofa. For those who prefer to have more space, the casitas are two-story units which offer covered adjacent parking, a living room, wet bar, 1 1/2 baths, one or two bedrooms, and a large outdoor patio. Connecting units are also available, which are perfect for large family gatherings.
All of the accommodations offer two televisions, coffee makers, work desks, hair dryers, irons, and Peter Thomas Roth bath amenities. A resort fee covers complimentary internet for up to two devices, along with other amenities like complimentary tennis.
Amenities and Activities at the Pointe Hilton Squaw Peak
The highlight of the Pointe Hilton Squaw Peak Resort is the River Ranch, a 4-acre water park which includes a water slide, sports pool, lazy river, and main pool. We spent almost two full days at the River Ranch and easily could have spent more. There’s also tennis, an 18-hole mini golf course, and a gift shop. For those looking for a quieter pool experience, there are several other pools located throughout the property, as well as a lap pool.
The resort also offers Coyote Camp, a kids’ club that is available for morning, morning with lunch, afternoon, or all day. My kids attended the morning session and enjoyed planting a cactus, creating a puppet show, and making a clay project. They definitely would have wanted to return the next day if we had time – and my husband and I enjoyed the free time to relax by the pool.
Although I didn’t get a chance to check it out, the Pointe Hilton Squaw Peak also has a full-service spa on property. Next time, I’ll definitely visit the spa while my kids are attending camp.
Restaurants at the Pointe Hilton Squaw Peak
There are several restaurants on property, including a lobby coffee shop serving Starbucks, a pool-side bar/restaurant, a seasonal family BBQ restaurant, and a full-service restaurant. We dined at the BBQ restaurant – the Hole in the Wall, and really enjoyed it. It’s fairly casual and is located adjacent to the River Ranch. The highlight of our meal was the family make-your-own s’mores, which we all enjoyed. There are also many restaurants located within a short driving distance, but eating on property was definitely the easiest for our short stay.
