Lake George, NY is a great family-friendly destination for all four seasons, and the Six Flags Great Escape Lodge is certainly one the most exciting places for kids to stay. Located adjacent to the Six Flags Great Escape park, the Six Flags Great Escape Lodge offers fun accommodations as well as an indoor water park. Earlier this year, we booked a three-night stay in a Kids’ Club room and had a great time.
Being a school vacation week, the lodge was crowded. We arrived about an hour before the official check-in time, and our room was ready. We were pleasantly surprised to see that the room was larger than a regular hotel room, offering a queen bed, a pull-out couch, desk, table, refrigerator, and microwave. Within the room was an Adirondack-themed kids’ cabin with bunk beds and a television. My kids loved having their own space – they spent much of their time sitting in their ‘cabin”.
Although we did like the room, we did have a few issues. The room was located adjacent to the staircase and it was loud, especially at night. I’d recommend requesting a room away from the stairs if possible. In addition, the queen bed in our room was very uncomfortable. It definitely needed to be replaced – we wrote a note to the resort once we left alerting them to that fact.
The common areas of the lodge were clean and inviting. My kids loved visiting the arcade, which had lots of fun games but wasn’t too crowded. There’s a restaurant off of the main lobby, a water park snack bar, a coffee shop in the lobby,
The lobby and exterior of the hotel are absolutely beautiful, and were decorated for Christmas. In the evening, Mrs. Claus read stories to the children, and a magician performed. During this special Christmas event during the weeks before and right after Christmas, guests can also visit with Santa Claus.
The hotel offers an arcade, which my kids loved. It had lots of game options and the kids earned tickets for small prizes. There are several restaurant options right in the lodge, including a restaurant off the lobby, a snack bar in the water park, a coffee bar in the lobby, and a Johnny Rockets restaurant and sports bar. We ate our own breakfast in the room, but did dine at Johnny Rocket’s one night. The lodge also offers a spa for adults, two gift shops, and a kids’ club.
As you’d imagine, the indoor water park at the Six Flags Great Escape Lodge is the most popular amenities. Guests of the lodge receive complimentary admission with their stay, while others can purchase day passes. Hours of the water park vary depending on the time of year. We choose to visit first thing in the morning, and it wasn’t too crowded. The slides and lazy river are lots of fun, but the water was a little cold. The lodge offers changing facilities, lockers (for an additional fee), and towels. I’d recommend bringing along your own towels, if possible, because the towels there are small and ran out during the day.
Despite the few issues we encountered, I’d still stay there again. The kids loved the water park and kids’ cabin in the room, and we enjoyed the overall atmosphere at the lodge.
