Heceta Lighthouse Bed and Breakfast on Oregon Coast

Looking for a unique inn that’s one-of-a-kind? Heceta Lighthouse Bed and Breakfast on the Oregon Coast fits the bill. The six-room B&B is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The boutique inn is romantic, rustic and full of history.

While Heceta Head Lighthouse is one of the most photographed lighthouses on the Oregon coast, not everyone knows that the Lightkeeper’s Cottage is available to guests for an overnight stay. The bed and breakfast was not always open to the public. Built in 1894, the B&B served as the Lightkeeper’s Cottage and was used by University of Oregon students for a time before being converted to a boutique inn.

Located 13 miles north of Florence, this central Oregon coast property was leased in 1995 by Carol and Mike Korgan who converted the building into a bed and breakfast. Currently, Korgan’s daughter Michelle operates the inn, along with a hospitality-driven staff.

I first discovered Heceta Lighthouse B&B after horseback riding in Florence, Oregon. A group of friends and I were traveling up the Oregon coast and stopped at Heceta Head Lighthouse. We wandered by the historic house and I vowed to return for an overnight stay with my husband.

The inn was full during our stay with fellow travelers looking for a romantic escape. Some guests were Oregon locals, while others were passing through on a coastal road trip. We all agreed that our stay was romantic, as well as full of history and good food.

Ocean view rooms

If you are looking for a view of the Pacific Ocean, you’ll want to reserve Mariner room I or Mariner room II (scene in top photo.) We were fortunate to spot several whale spouts during our visit.

If you want to take advantage of the lovely clawfoot bath tub, request the Cape Cove or Queen Anne room. All 6 guest rooms offer queen beds, however, some have shared bathrooms. Even if you don’t have an ocean view from your room, the wrap around porch is perfect for reading and relaxing on the Oregon coast.

Perhaps you are on a lighthouse coastal tour and want a place to stay along your journey? Heceta Lighthouse Bed and Breakfast is like a living museum. The innkeepers offer historical house tours in the morning after breakfast. The black and white photos on display throughout the house and the many books in the parlor offer a glimpse into what it was like to live by and operate a lighthouse.

Some say the Heceta Lighthouse B and B is haunted. Don’t worry, Rue is said to be a friendly spirit who simply wants to keep her former home clean and organized. Read about the families who stayed on this very property. Better yet, take a walk to Heceta Head Lighthouse by flashlight at night. This self-guided tour of the Oregon coastal lighthouse is one of the perks of staying overnight at this unique inn.

Another special feature of this inn is the 7-course breakfast. The mother daughter team of Carol and Michelle Korgan have written a cookbook with recipes used at the breakfast. The cost of the gourmet breakfast is included in the price of your stay.

Room rates range from $208 – $619 depending on the time of year. Some weekend stays require a two-night minimum. There are add-on packages for picnics and romantic occasions available on the website. A wine and cheese social is included with your reservation. WiFi is complimentary. Please note that the bed and breakfast is not pet-friendly and is not geared toward children. However, children are welcome if you are renting the entire property. You can reserve your stay directly through the property’s website, or go through a booking site like Expedia.
