I stayed in the HM Palma Blanc in downtown Palma on my recent trip to Palma de Mallorca. HM Hotels is a hospitality group based in Palma de Mallorca, Spain. It operates various properties, primarily in the Balearic Islands, focusing on sustainability, local culture, and innovative design. Its portfolio includes urban hotels like HM Palma Blanc and HM Jaime III and resorts such as HM Gran Fiesta.
Location
HM Palma Blanc is located in the heart of Palma, making it a convenient base for exploring the city. It’s within walking distance of Palma’s historic old town, offering easy access to popular landmarks like the Cathedral of Santa Maria, the Passeig del Born, and various restaurants, bars, and boutiques.
Public Spaces
The hotel’s lobby is spacious and inviting, quickly establishing the design sense of the hotel as not your father’s Holiday Inn. The lobby features a living wall of green plants that hosts the elevator banks and a large flat screen with a black-and-white image of a woman silently pronouncing various random words in a sort of 1984-looking video.
It also has a bar (8 am to 11 pm), seating areas with couches, and another seating area with tables and chairs just outside the hotel’s restaurant. Behind the bar is an inviting courtyard with green plants adjacent to the restaurant. Upstairs from the inner courtyard is a second-story courtyard.
The hotel has a lap pool and pool bar (open 10:30 am to 8:30 pm) on the roof of the main hotel tower (see above), which was quite popular during my visit in the warm days of September. There is a separate spa pool in the spa area below the first level, as well as a small fitness center with a treadmill, epicycle, exercise bike, and weights.
Room Features
The hotel offers a range of room categories, including Double Rooms, Superior Rooms, Junior Suites, and Suites. Each room has modern comforts such as free Wi-Fi, a fan, a flat-screen TV, a desk, a small refrigerator, and luxury bedding.
Here is a breakdown of the room types, sizes, and starting prices, although prices will vary with the season.
- Double Room
- Size: 194 sq ft
- Price: Starting from $111 per night
- Superior Room
- Size: 265 sq ft
- Price: Starting from $130 per night
- Junior Suite
- Size: 377 sq ft
- Price: Starting from $160 per night
- Suite
- Size: 484 sq ft
- Price: Starting from $200 per night
Guests can add breakfast for a small fee (8 to 10 euros).
For the latest rates, check the hotel website or look online at Expedia.com, Hotels.com, or Booking.com.
I stayed in the Double Room, and it is not large. It is the sort of small hotel room one commonly finds in Europe. Again, as with many European hotel rooms the “double” bed is two single beds pushed together and made up as a double bed.
If you are traveling as a couple, I recommend paying a bit more to get the Superior room or one of the more spacious suites.
Special Features
HM Palma Blanc stands out for its strong commitment to sustainability, as showcased by its participation in “The PLANET by HM Hotels” initiative. The hotel’s avant-garde architecture reflects this eco-friendly focus, incorporating local materials and energy-efficient practices. This includes a solar panel installation that provides 27.3 KWp of electricity.
Food and Dining
Facilities and Amenities
The hotel boasts a range of facilities, including a full-service spa, a 24-hour gym, and meeting rooms. Two meeting rooms are fully equipped for business travelers, and the hotel even features a small cinema for private events or business meetings. On-site parking (122 spots) with some charging stations for electric vehicles and a garage for bicycles makes it a convenient choice for eco-conscious guests.
Nearby
If you are looking for a restaurant outside of the hotel, we had a great experience at Sandro Restaurante, an Italian restaurant across the street. Try the homemade tagliatelle with bolognese sauce that Morgan Freeman said was the “best in his life.” Other restaurants are also close, including a pizza and a sushi pizza restaurant.
For a more memorable experience, the Hotel HM Palma Blanc is two blocks away from MoltaK, where you can take a Malloran cooking class in an old windmill.
My stay at the Hotel HM Palma Blanc was part of a press tour to Mallorca as a guest of Visit Mallorca and Visit Spain. All photos and opinions are those of the author.
