Hotel Yountville, the Perfect Retreat in Napa Valley

Finding the right hotel in California’s Napa Valley wine country usually requires a trade-off of some sort – ideal location for a pool, extra perks for dated decor. The Hotel Yountville is one of those rare places that offers it all – excellent location, stylish rooms, sexy pool and spa, free bikes, even breakfast room service. It is one of the more expensive options in the area, but it’s worth every single penny (and probably more).

Despite its higher cost (rooms start at $300 per night during the week and off-season, and go up to more than $500 at peak times), Hotel Yountville is one of the best value luxury hotels in Napa Valley.

Tucked away on the edge of downtown Yountville, it’s located a short walk away from the town’s many great restaurants and tasting rooms, and yet it still feels very private and exclusive.

The hotel’s 80 rooms are scattered around the property in grey two-story buildings; the muted grey and white color scheme carries throughout the property, in the rooms and common areas like the lobby and pool area, giving the property an air of understated sophistication.

My room featured a sparkling white marble bathroom – complete with giant two-person jacuzzi tub and louvered shutters that opened into the bedroom plus a dual-headed shower – and in the bedroom a four-poster king pillowtop bed topped with fluffy white down comforter, with a stylish grey sofa at its foot.

While the rooms at Hotel Yountville look posh, it’s the details that take the hotel to another level of luxury – robes that feel supernaturally plush, silky-soft Italian sheets, fireplaces in each room, a complimentary welcome bottle of wine, 42-inch LCD TVs, a seductive pool and hot tub that are open 24 hours, room service, and free cruiser bikes to ride around the streets of Yountville.

There’s a 4,000 square foot spa that offers six treatment rooms, Vichy showers, indoor coed hot tub, and treatments ranging from massages and facials to scrubs and wraps, many of which can be done in the comfort of the guest’s room. Next to the spa, Y Bar serves up light bites and drinks, which guests can enjoy on the patio while warmed by the fire or under a canopy of twinkling lights. In addition to Y Bar, the Hopper Creek Kitchen serves up one of the best breakfasts in Yountville; the restaurant even offers room service, somewhat of a rarity in Napa.

Another added bonus: free and discounted deals at more wineries than you could visit in a long weekend.

The hotel has more than two dozen winery partners. On Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights the vintners come to the hotel for hosted tastings. Upon check-in, guests are given a list of the others where they can receive free or buy-one,get-one tastings and other perks. Many are even located in Yountville and reachable on the hotel’s bikes.

For wine lovers, the passes alone could save more than the nightly rate, but the hotel’s air of relaxed and pampered exclusivity, attention to high-end details, and easy access to all Yountville has to offer make it a pretty close to perfect choice in Napa Valley.

If you go:
Check-in is 3pm, check-out is at noon. Room rates start at $300 per night.

Hotel Yountville offered me a discounted media rate, but all opinions are my own.
