When it comes to exploring Sacramento, the Kimpton Sawyer Hotel boasts a location that’s tough to beat. It’s just steps from Golden 1 Center, home to the Sacramento Kings basketball team. Oldtown Sacramento is less than a 10-minute walk away. And if you feel like brushing up on your history, the California State Capitol is an equally easy stroll.
The Kimpton Sawyer Hotel offers 250 rooms and suites. Key cards are needed to operate elevators, so keep them handy as you make your way to your room, and throughout the hotel. My Premier King room was located on the 10th floor.

Contemporary and modern, the spacious room had a subtle grey, and brown color palette. Along with a king bed, there was a desk large enough to spread out travel gear, or if necessary, crack open a laptop computer. One corner of the room served as a sitting area, with a comfy chair, table and tall floor lamp. Both bedside tables were equipped with easy to reach electrical outlets and USB ports.
A large sink took up a majority of the bathroom vanity space, but the counter offered just enough room for two. Shampoo, conditioner, and body wash are dispensed from large, refillable pump containers in the walk-in shower.
The room had a small refrigerator, but it was loaded chock-full with honor bar goods, making it tough to use. Complimentary coffee and tea are served every morning in the lobby, but rooms do not have coffee makers.
Every room has a yoga mat in the closet, but guests can also take advantage of the large 24-hour fitness center located on the third floor. It’s just down the hall from the hotel’s rooftop pool. Open year-round, the heated pool is surrounded by cushy loungers and umbrellas.
A complimentary breakfast buffet is served weekdays from 6:30am to 9:30am, weekends from 7am to 10am. Expect a couple hot items like oatmeal and breakfast sandwiches, in addition to yogurt and a selection of breads, pastries, juices, coffee and tea. A complimentary wine reception is held nightly from 5pm to 6pm.
Rates for Premier King rooms range from $189 to $529. IHG® Rewards Club members get complimentary WiFi. You can compare rates at Booking.com or Expedia . Valet parking is available for an additional fee. The hotel is smoke-free and pets are welcome. Pet sitting and dog walking services can be arranged by the hotel concierge.
