When you think of Athens, Greece most people think of the Acropolis. We only had one night in Athens before catching our Viking Venus cruise, so we wanted to make the most of it. Seeing the Acropolis was mandatory for us.
My husband and I were catching a honeymoon cruise with Viking Ocean Cruises from Athens port. Concerned about the many issues involving flying post-Covid, we wanted to arrive a day early to make sure we gave ample time in case there were problems in our airline connections. Our itinerary Journey to Antiquities, included ports of call to Turkey, Greece, and Italy, and we didn’t want to jeopardize missing our cruise because of possible plane delays.
Our Checklist for Athens Overnight
Our requirements were for a single night in Athens, Greece were for a value-based luxury overnight stay where we could see the Acropolis the following morning. Also, we wanted to make sure we could easily arrange for a taxi from our hotel to Peraeus Port in Athens. This was for an afternoon ship boarding on the Viking Venus.
The Suites
After researching booking sites and reviews, I was drawn toward Lux&Easy Acropolis Suites. The luxurious suites are just a 10-minute walk from the Acropolis, clearly meeting one of our requisites. Plus, the luxury Aparthotel is outfitted with the latest smart technology and modern conveniences. That met another one of our requirements.
A big plus is that the place offers minimalist-type designed studio suites, with a soothing palette of white and beige colors. The suites come with a fully equipped kitchen, king-sized bed with premium mattress, and a shower bathroom with complimentary signature hotel amenities. A complimentary bottle of Greek wine awaited our arrival. We then toasted to Athens and the Acropolis on our balcony.
Smart Technology
Advance online check-in is mandatory in order to be granted access to the Aparthotel. We received our check-in guidance before going to the airport to catch our international flight. The process was quick and easy.
We were asked to provide copies of our passports and pertinent information prior to check-in. (Make sure you have a PDF of your passport(s) for the road in case you need to register after you have commenced your flight(s) to Europe.) Once they received this, we were provided with a code that granted us access to the building and our particular apartment for the duration of our stay.
When our airport taxi arrived at the Aparthotel, I entered the lobby door with the code that was provided in advance. It was also good for our specific unit. Once inside, if you scan the QR code on the inside of the apartment by the front door. By doing so, it automatically connects you to the complimentary WiFi without even having to find the provider and enter a password.
The entire process for check-in, codes, and payment was contactless and simple.
The Reservation
Booking a reservation is easy and can be done by going directly to the Lux&Easy website. Booking.com also offers easy reservations and offers a measure of assurance that the property is legitimate. This is where I booked our stay. Be advised that rates can vary widely depending on the day of the week and whether you are booking during high season.
We picked up our room on Booking.com for only $80 for the night. A real deal by any stretch. A recent check shows the range from $80 USD to $135 per night. This might increase even more during prime time.
For an alternate property that is also close to the Acropolis, check out: Electra Metropolis.
