Maine Getaway at the White Barn Inn

white barn inn restaurantNew England is filled with gorgeous, cozy country inns – some with spas, some with restaurants, but all filled with charm.  When New Englanders talk about country inns though, one name always seems to rise to the top – the White Barn Inn in Kennebunkport, Maine, which is especially known for their amazing restaurant.  My husband and I had always wanted to visit, and were thrilled when we finally had the opportunity.

Kennebunk, Maine, home of the White Barn Inn, is just a short two-hour drive from Boston.  We left on a Friday night, arriving right around dinnertime.  There was a bit of confusion at check-in, and our luggage was confused with another couple’s, but it was remedied immediately, and we received a full apology.   It was easily a mistake anyone could have made, and I was happy to see it fixed and acknowledged.

White Barn Inn Our room was a deluxe queen, located in the main building right above the lobby.  There are several different room types located in the main building, as well as rooms garden rooms and cottage rooms.  All of the rooms are unique – I especially loved the large bathroom that our room had, with a fireplace separating the bedroom from the bathroom.  Our room also had a large soaking tub, double sinks, a shower shall, and a heated floor.

The White Barn Inn focuses on the little touches that create a deluxe stay for guests.  Things like fresh flowers and fruit, book lights delivered during evening turndown service, and Molton Brown toiletries are welcome touches.  The White Barn Inn also offers a delicious continental breakfast each morning, afternoon tea, high-speed internet access, twice a day housekeeping, and room service during breakfast and dinner.

During our stay, we had dinner in the world-famous restaurant.  I’d heard about the restaurant for years, and was pleased to see that it lives up to the hype.  The AAA Five Diamond restaurant offers a four-course prix-fix dinner with optional wine pairing.  The food is fabulous – we’ve dined at the famous French Laundry in Napa Valley and I’d say that the White Barn Inn is even better.

The White Barn Inn is the perfect spot for a romantic getaway, in all four seasons, and I can’t wait to return!

Disclosure: We received a two-night complimentary stay at the White Barn Inn, as well as dinner (excluding alcohol).
