Any day in Vancouver, Canada is a good day as far as I am concerned. When I learned that I would be staying at the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver for a few nights before my departure on the Rocky Mountaineer train, I was thrilled. I have stayed at the nearby Fairmont Vancouver Airport hotel, but this particular visit I would actually have time to explore downtown Vancouver and nearby Granville Island thanks to Hotel Vancouver’s ideal location.
Whether this is your first time to visit Vancouver or you are a regular to this part of British Columbia, you’ve probably heard a little about the weather. Sometimes it rains and it can be a little grey, but no matter the weather, there is plenty to see and do in Vancouver, BC and when the sun shines, the city absolutely sparkles. Fondly referred to as the Castle in the City, the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver is located on the posh West Georgia Street near fashionable Robson Street. There are plenty of excellent restaurants nearby, but the hotel’s Notch8 Restaurant and Bar is well loved for their steaks, local seafood and craft cocktails.
If the weather doesn’t cooperate during your visit, head downstairs to Absolute Spa or take a dip in the indoor swimming pool. There’s also a fitness center that is open 24/7 with a swipe of your room key.
All 550 rooms come with the wonderful Fairmont pillows that I have come to love. You may actually purchase these pillows online. Speaking of online – be sure to join the Fairmont President’s Club. Even if you are only staying for one night, membership in the club is complimentary and includes free internet access!
Step into the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver lobby and you might be greeted by a friendly Labrador Retriever. As is typical of all Fairmont Hotels, Hotel Vancouver is pet-friendly. They are also family-friendly and have several amenities for children. One of the unique offerings at this hotel is Tea at the Top. Enjoy afternoon tea on the 15th floor, offering city views, a wonderful high tea service and a chance to dress up and slow down. There’s also a kid’s menu, so don’t be afraid to introduce your children to this lovely tradition.
Room rates range from $280 CAD – $899, including package deals. The hotel is centrally located in downtown Vancouver and has recently undergone a $12 million restaurant, bar and lobby renovation. For more information or to make reservations, check the website. You can also compare rates and book through Booking.com.
