Sonesta ES Suites, Cleveland Airport: Wow! What a Find

On a recent overnight trip to Cleveland, I booked a room at a hotel that I hadn’t heard of before–Sonesta ES Suites, Cleveland Airport. Although Sonesta ES Suites, an independent hotel chain founded in 1937, has 65 properties in 7 countries and the United States, it’s new to Cleveland’s hotel scene.

This was a perfect stay. Bright-colored comfort and a price point designed to get first-timers to give the hotel a try. For anyone interested in easy access to the Cleveland airport or downtown, this place is a winner.

Our two queen bed suite, with its aesthetically pleasing décor, fireplace and functional floor plan, included a full kitchen with a breakfast island separating the space from the living area. Everything we needed was found in one of the kitchen’s cabinets and drawers. Pots, pans, plates, mugs, wine glasses, silverware, etc. A small bottle of dish soap, kitchen towels and paper towels were included, as well as coffee and tea.

The living area with its couch, arm chair, large flat screen TV and a coffee table made a great place to hang out with my husband’s two brothers and a sister-in-law who stopped by for a visit.

The sleeping space was far enough away from the living area that a person who decided to call it a day wouldn’t be disturbed by a night owl watching TV.

What I most appreciated was the tastefulness of the décor. Modern and homey with a cheerful color palate. Sometimes modern seems more masculine to me. The décor here appeals to anyone’s tastes.

A stay includes a hot buffet breakfast with items above the cut of typical breakfast buffets. Fresh fruit, crispy bacon, western style omelets were part of the offerings. The dining room had ample seating and spilled into a common area with a fireplace. In warmer weather, guests can also eat outside on the patio. I took some food back to our suite.

Another bonus of a stay in warmer weather is the basketball court and the outdoor pool. The grounds are well landscaped with shrubs, flower beds and trees. Of the hotels we’ve stayed in this area, the Sonesta ES Suites is one we will probably visit again, particularly if we come with our teenage son. For a family, there’s ample room to spread out.

As a bonus to the location, there’s a small mall within walking distance with a multi-screen movie theater and several restaurants. Downtown Cleveland is about a 2o minute drive.

Along with the two queen bed suite, there are two bedroom loft suites and rooms with one king-sized bed. Pets can stay for a fee. Wi-Fi and parking is free.

There is a Park and Fly package for people who would like the park their car at the hotel and get a ride to the airport. Parking is good for 7 days.  There are extended stay rates in addition to overnight. AAA rates range from $87-$119. You can book on the hotel website. We booked through Hotels.com.
