Infinity pools, inspiring sunsets, tables for two, intimate walks on the beach, pampering spa treatments. Romance and hotels go hand-in-hand. We at Hotel-Scoop feel that nothing speaks to the heart more than a romantic getaway — even to this group of (sometimes) weary travel writers. That’s why we are bringing this round-up of the best romantic hotels & resorts, from around the world.
Personally, there’s nothing I enjoy more than exploring the world with my husband. Along the way, we’ve discovered so many romantic hotels and resorts, and it’s not easy pinpointing what makes them romantic as it’s just that “feeling.” Sometimes it’s knowing you can wind down together, over a nightcap together in a quiet corner of the hotel. Or destress together during a relaxing couple’s massage. How about an amazing over-the-top fine dining experience, knowing that all you have to do is walk to your home (and not hail a taxi!)?
Oxford Hotel, Denver, Colorado
Last year, I re-visited the renovated,
historic and romantic Oxford Hotel in downtown Denver. Because there is just something romantic about stepping back into history from the moment you enter the lobby. It’s like time-travel yet you get to keep all the modern amenities like those comfy beds. Oh and we especially love stopping in the prohibition-era Cruise Room Martini Bar and ordering our favorite martinis.
Agape Farm & Retreat, Paonia, Colorado
Be prepared for a surprise when you make your way to this western Colorado B&B. Located 90 minutes from Glenwood Springs near Paonia, the
Agape Farm & Retreat is literally that. A retreat. And we loved waking up in our 28-acre farm surroundings. It was quiet. Romantic. And awesome — perhaps one of my favorite surprise discoveries in my home state.
Harvey’s Point Hotel, Donegal, Ireland
We found the pot of gold when checking into
Harvey’s Point Hotel. Mountains and a lake (Lough Eske). Large, luxurious bedrooms (and that bathtub!). Irish hospitality. Seriously delicious food. Plus it’s set away from it all, which again makes this one of my favorite-can’t-wait-to-return romantic hotels of all time. (Harvey’s Point also made my list of
top hotels in 2018.)
Turtle Island Resort, Fiji
Editor Tim Leffel equates “romantic” with a great beach and pool to lounge around in the sun…or a place that makes you feel like a royal couple.
For the first, it would have to be Turtle Island Resort in Fiji since he spent a few blissful laid-back luxury nights there with his wife on their 20th wedding anniversary. On a private island where you can book your own private beach for the day, you’re wanting for nothing more from the cheerful staff that likes to break into song.
Kilkea Castle Hotel, Ireland
For feeling like you’ve stepped back into royal manor days, it’s hard to top intimate Kilkea Castle Hotel in rural Ireland, which has been continuously occupied by someone since the 12th century. Don’t worry though, they have updated the heating and hot plumbing systems quite a bit in the 21st century so now it offers elegant lodging in every way.
Writer Carolyn B Heller, selected a resort in Maui, a convent-turned-hotel in the Magdalen Islands, and an urban hotel setting in Tokyo.
Royal Lahaina Resort, Maui
“I love the ocean, so for a romantic escape by the water, I’d recommend booking one of the seaside cottages at
Royal Lahaina Resort, on the island of Maui. I like their “old Hawaii” style, and the beach’s golden sands are perfect for sunset walks.
Domaine du Vieux Couvent, Magdalen Islands
You might not think that a stay in a former convent would be romantic, but I’d also love a getaway at
Domaine du Vieux Couvent, a historic convent-turned-inn on Quebec’s remote Magdalen Islands. Book a room facing the sea, and venture out for fresh seafood or to explore the islands’ dramatic red cliffs and sandy beaches.
Shangri-La Hotel Tokyo
For something more urban, I’d pick the
Shangri-La Hotel Tokyo, with spacious rooms, spa-like baths, and several excellent restaurants. The amazingly accommodating staff can assist with anything that you and that special someone might need to make your romantic holiday extra special.
Inn at Newport Ranch
According to our writer Nancy Brown, if you find yourself in northern Californi and you want to take a walk on the wild side, head north to Mendocino County. Here you will be rewarded with the rugged, natural beauty of the California coast. Escape from the world at Inn at Newport Ranch, yet take luxury and romance with you. Yep, there’s a spa & a personal chef at the ranch!
Royal Crescent Hotel & Spa
Nancy’s second romantic hotel favorite is the Royal Crescent Hotel & Spa, located in Bath, England, and fit for a king or a queen. This is one of my personal favorite hotels for a romantic getaway. Enjoy the spa, a multi-course tasting menu at Dower House restaurant or stay tucked in your suite and order room service.
Paresa Resort, Phuket, Thailand

Paresa, which translates from the Sanskrit to “Heaven of Heavens,” radiates romance, according to Hotel-Scoop travel writer Buzzy Gordon. From the guest rooms’ private entrances and semi-secluded balconies (most with private pools) to super-wide poolside daybeds, and from the unique bathtub settings to the tables for two on the sunny terrace overlooking the sparkling sea.
The rooms themselves feature king-sized beds that are bathed in sunlight during the day but can be enveloped in darkness at night. The sumptuous washrooms boast spacious tubs with Andaman Sea vistas through the plate glass window or reached via stepping stones surrounded by rivulets of water.
Four Seasons Jimbaran Bay, Bali
Four Seasons Jimbaran Bay terrace and plunge pool
Buzzy also recommend the Four Seasons Jimbaran Bay. Here each guest villa consists of several thatched-roof pavilions housed within a courtyard enclosure that contains a spacious suite, an outdoor sitting and dining area, and a private plunge pool. The interior of the spacious bedroom is especially stunning, crowned with an intricately fashioned dark bamboo ceiling.
The property’s spa pampers clients in sumptuous indoor-outdoor treatment suites. In addition to couples massages, couples can enjoy the intimacy of a shared herbal bath suffused with flower petals. Actually, the bathrooms in the guest villas are practically spa-like themselves: in addition to the inviting tub and roomy shower stall, there is an outdoor shower set among tropical vegetation.
